yes
i still get messages forwarded from tiscali after about 5 yearsmy favourite food is spare ribs0 -
Yes but it can be withdrawn at anytime .
However i too have old ten year + email accounts still running . Looks like the ISPs do not normally shut them and its part of their service you are using without paying for .So no complaints if they shut down .

I think that if you log in to an email address every few months or so, just so that its active, it can continue to be used, regardless of which ISP you use.0

I would say no - I used to be with Virgin Media, and as soon as I left them, I lost my email address. That was 3 years ago.0

But why would you want to?
10 mins to set up a free ISP-independent Gmail account.
5 mins to do a group email to all your contacts.
Perhaps a little longer changing your details in any online accounts.
BTW, how are you intending to leave VM if you are on cable service?-you will first need a BT line in order to use any other ISP.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I would also say no. At least you should expect it to be withdrawn at any time after you leave. Before you leave, set up a forwarder to your new address, so you'll get messages through as long as it is active and you will then be able to inform senders it has changed. Ditch the ones you don't want to hear from - no better excuse than "I've changed providers."
Bit more work, but quite inexpensive, you can set up your own domain with email on it through a hosting company. Then you can prefix it with whatever name you want to use for an email address and it should give you one easier to remember than whatever you can get from the likes of hotmail. Plus, once you own the domain, it's yours and it won't matter where you go or what provider you use. Most hosting companies offer webmail on domains they host too.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I called Virgin media for a MAC code and, after being unnecessarily difficult over security and trying to convince me I should stay with them by offering a 50% discount (i.e. £14.99 down to £7.50), eventually they sent it by email.
In the email they say very clearly that the moment the Mac code is implemented the virgin.net email is closed.
I am convinced that this policy is to dissuade potential customer migration.
It's a real inconvenience to have to change email addresses so I wavered and called Virgin back to see if the deal was still on the table. This time I was told that the reduced price £7.50 was only there for three months after which it would revert to £14.99 AND it was a 12 month contract. For 4Mb, at best, broadband only that's not a good deal.
I'm just going to have to take the pain and acquire a new email address and tell absolutely everyone it's changed. Grrrrrr!!!!
I wonder if that nice Mr. Branson knows what his employees are doing in his company's name. They're certainly tarnishing the name of Virgin.0 -
I assume that you are referring to Virgin National, not VM cable? A MAC is not 'implemented' until you give it to your new ISP and they apply it. Otherwise it expires after 30 days and your contract continues.
So I fail to see how supplying a MAC can terminate your email account?
PS: setting up a Gmail account and group emailing your contacts take about 20 minutes. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I dont get why people think that they should get to keep a company specific email address when they go to another ISP? If you move house you dont expect the Royal mail to deliver mail addressed to your old house to the new one for free so why should an ISP do it with emails?
Get a gmail/yahoo/hotmail address or even register a domain and get your own email and never look back.0
