    The OP is still to tell us the excess and the policy details. It could quite easily be a high excess and new policy with almost a year to go which could add up to a grand.

    What was the excess?
    How much was the policy? and when is it due for renewal.

    update recieved the initial cheque with letter saying interim payment.then 4 days later phone call ofering £3900.so all round very pleased with the service we recieved from hastings..thanks all for takeing the time to help me understand the process.VAIO your help has been much appreciated ck
