Recieved parking ticket for parking at uni from Car Parking Partnership...

OK, so I go to Winchester uni but live in Southampton.
Everyday I commute to uni by car and I park on a friends drive way.
I'm 21 and in my first year so most of the people on my course live in Halls which is about 30 min walk from where I would usually park at my friends...
Last night I came up to see friends from the course and just to catch up and parked at night in the 'visitors car park' at the Halls and then stayed the night and left this morning at 11am. When I got out of the car last night the only notice I could see was a notice reccomending staff to car share. I also looked at the car next to me who had no ticket in their windscreen.
So this morning when I went to drive home, I had a ticket on my car in a little plastic yellow and black envelope from the 'Car Parking Partnership'.
Car park attendant WIN** has reasonable cause to believe that a Civil Parking Notice has been incurren because:
Code: 01
Parked without clearly displaying the required current valid permit or pay and display ticket.
It is only £30... well, £60 but £30 if paid within 14 days - but,
1) I was a visitor
2) I couldn't see any pay and display signage
3) I go to the University!
4) The police or council didn't give me the ticket
5) I CANT AFFORD TO PAY IT.
I have had a car parking ticket before which i paid because I was genuinely in the wrong (stayed over night and parked on the road and forgot in the morning that I hadn't paid and displayed)
Does anyone know if this company will follow up if I don't pay or would it be easier to just pay even though I dont accept liability at all?
First time posting here so hopefully this comes out in the correct section on the forum.
Thanks for reading.
Mike.

Ignore it.
Some may argue that the uni can withhold your degree because of the "debt". However, it seems the "debt" isn't even with the uni on this occasion, but with The Car Parking Partnership. Take a look in the parking tickets board for more info on private tickets.

Ignore it. Bin all correspondence. Don't communicate with them. They'll send some nasty letters, but they're basically trolling you for money. It will never go to court.0

Ignore it. It would be different if you worked there, but as a visitor there is not a lot they can do.0

OK, thanks for the advice. Went up there again just now to have a look properly...
Where I parked it says
CAR SHARING ZONE
Then underneath that it says 'Spaces reserved for two or more staff sharing a vehicle' so maybe I was in the wrong.. but the spaces for visitors is the next space along and there is no pay and display.. you have to pay on your mobile phone but the sign was the otherside of the car park to where I parked.
Juding by what I've read, I think pretty much anyone for any reason can get away with parking tickets from these kind of 'ticketers'. If it was the council then of course it would be a different story.0 -
My Uni had effective deterrent - no fines, they just superglued the parking regulations to your drivers side window. You could never get it all off. You only abused the parking rules once :-)0

Haha, when I went to college they did that to a few cars.. actually stuck to the window for weeks.
All they had to do was give me a warning, and I'd never park there again... but instead.. £60 BAM!0 -

Someone did that to my car - on four windows, when I parked in a private car park. Trouble was, it was my mother-in-law's private car park, and one of her employees was the culprit. He spent a whole lunch hour removing it all. :rotfl:0 -
Hi All,
As with the query above and via other forums I have got a feeling that I know what advice is coming but will set out the scenario anyway.
I was based with work out of the offices at Manchester metropolitan University in manchester city centre (MMU). they kindly offered me a parking permit with the choice of a primary and secondary car park. My primary choice, being closest to my office, was also the smallest and regularly full by the time I got there. I therefore reverted to my secondary choice and displayed my valid Permit and daily ticket paying the £2.20 diligently.
I was hit however with a number of CPP 'invoices'. I wrote to them initially to explain the scenario, heard nothing back so carried on and received a couple more tickets. having researched at this point I have no longer contacted them but today have been contacted by MMU directly asking me to get in contact.
Having ignored CPP for 5 months I intend to ignore MMU also, not least because they granted me access to their private land and I paid and displayed effectively. Furthermore, I no longer am based at MMU and they can't hand over any of my details to CPP due to data protection.
I feel confident in my case here but would appreciate any feedback?
Thanks - Chris0
