Hello
I have a built in hotpoint cooker that came with my newbuild house.
i was thinking of leaving the door open after use to heat the house....can anyone see any reason why i shouldnt keep the door open after use?
will the heat damage the outside of the cooker or the door seals etc??
thanks
nathan

It wont make any difference. The oven will always lose it's heat to the surroundings - heat always flows from a hot body to a cold body. Leaving the door open or not just affects how quickly this process takes place.0

the thing i was worried about was burning the door seal or something like that?
its a fan assisted built in electric cooker0 -
With my fan asisted gas oven the fan keeps running after it has been switched off for a while. I find it runs longer if I leave the door open so I suspect this will use more elec.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Also you may accidentally touch the inside of the door which may be extremely hot.frog_southampton wrote: »will the heat damage the outside of the cooker or the door seals etc??

If that were to happen, be careful not to open the door whilst it is still hot inside
It may take several hours to cool down, so plan your roasts carefully.
Of course, by the time the oven has cooled down, the food you would have been cooking will have cooled down too.
Allowing food to cool in such a gradual way could, depending on what is being cooked, increase the risk of food poisoning."Now to trolling as a concept. .... I haven't used a oven for 22 years, on the rings all i do is switch them on for cooking in pans, and when they have heated up i switch them off, the heat continues for around 5 mins and cooks whatever is in the pan perfectly, if i'm cooking rice though i leave it on simmer for 5 mins then turn off, the heat continues and the rice is cooked to perfection 5 mins later.Owed out = lots. :cool:0

Cue three Yorkshiremen from Monty Python
When I were lad [1950s] we used to trudge home from school and stick our frozen feet in the lit, open oven
There were no central heating or gas fires back then fro us rif raf, just coal which took ages to get going
So, no it will not damage anything, except your shins if you walk into the open doorEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

You could also save money on heating your home by sitting in your car when you arrive home from work.
Stay in your already warm car until the heat goes and then go in your house, turn the cooker on to make the evening meal.
The oven and gas rings will warm the kitchen, then open the oven as you sugest to warm the house.
Then you could visit friends/neighbours and use there heating to get warm.0
