I need to stop the procastination and actually do something about tidying and decluttering my house. Where does all the mess come from? I think i might have an ebay session but not sure i can be bothered.

i'm one of these grumpy old women. The mini pixie is 15 weeks tomorrow, can you believe that?? It was easy when i was huge pregnant to avoid the decluttering and to the bare minimum of tidying but really i am out of excuses. I have been attempting to be a flylady by reading along but failing misrably. I have my healthvisitor coming out on thursday to weigh the smallest because i have not had it done since 8 week check, to be honest i don't like the interfearing nature of healthvisitors.

I worry/am cocerned I am losing track of the main goal. To be honest i'm bored, maternity leave and me are not really compatible. Some of our costs are escalating and there is very very little fat left to trim so to speak. The last 10-12 weeks I have managed to OP just short of 4k part wages, part PPI refund and i did my tax return and had a bit more set by for tax than i was actually due becuase i was so ill from November onwards so that was paid over too. I have also shifted mortgage DD to an old bank account and shoved 3 months of mortgage payments into it to cover mortgage whie i'm not earning much. That means we should still have a surplus of earnings to build up a small emergency fund, as things stand our emergency fund is actually a little blue thing with mastercard in the bottom corner.

I am also struggling with aims.

We have decided that this house being a 3 bed 2 bath newish build won't be big enough for 3 teenage girls and the space (shoes) they need. Its not an OMG we NEED to move but the space we would like to have as a family. We would like to build our own home because I think thats the only way to accomodate all our wants. Sounds a huge huge task especially when you consider we would need to buy land, have funds for building and live someplace while building a new home. To do that we will need a fair amount of cash and I have no idea what is the best way to get that cash. Should we clear mortgage then reborrow when the time comes, save up instead and just pay minimum to mortgage or a mix of both??

We argue with ourselves constantly There is lots of issues around land as well, land with outline planning permission costs, land without planning permission is alot cheaper but planning permission can be 'difficult'. If you can get land a get planning permision granted then it will save alot.

Torn is us, we need to do alot more research but its clouding our aiming to be mortgage free here which is annoying me

    Hi LP :j

Billy had the same issues regarding buying land & doing a self build.. Have you spoken to him to get his point of view? He might be able to direct you, or give you some pointers as to what you need to plan for or be prepared for..

I 'spoke' to him briefly but he is futher advanced than we are, he did tell me about some mortgage issues i wasn't aware of regarding how much we could borrow. might sound silly but i would be happy to buy land soonish (next 2-3 years) and spend 2-3+ getting planning permissions

I'd go for it LP, my parents did a self build when I was 20 sis was 17, they left it too late - by the time it was finished we were both at uni, so they sold their 'forever' family home, which was completely to their spec, 5 bed 3 en suite (one for each member of family). Mums ideal kitchen/work room. Family room, dining room, lounge.

Everything had been built with 'our' family in mind, apart from we were no longer a 'family' as kids had flown the nest.

Acquired land Dec 2000, planning permission granted 2003, Build completed Aug 2004. Sold Sept 2009 (after 18 months on the market).
    OPs so far £42,139
