  • I was given a Dyson ten years ago as a wedding present (we asked for it) and earlier this year the hose split a little bit. Still usable, but split. When i finally got around to calling Dyson, they provided a replacement part, and it's perfectly fine again.

I've never used Miele, but I wouldn't write off Dysons quite so easily - that machine is still going strong, and never gives me a problem.

Dyson are terrible vacs and I've heard from a lot of people including relatives, who say that theirs failed at just over a year and the repair costs would of been too high to be worthwhile.

    I would never purchase one.

Dysons come with a five year guarantee, if your friend had registered it would have been free to repair?

I've got two (one I'm in the process of refurbishing since I was lazy and used it to suck up the dog sick...girlfriend was not impressed hence I had to get a new one since she refused to use it!!) and not had problems with either
  • Had a Miele for about six years - still going strong - would buy one again -

Our Dyson has been going for about five years now and it was a cat A (one of the returned and refurbed ones), and like you the wife uses it to suck up cat "presents", which is ok if the thing is emptied there and then, but after a week things tend to get a little moist.....just as well it's reasonably air tight:D
