poorly kitty

hi

i took on a 5 month old kitten recently as his owner (brothers neighbour) passed away. well, i've had him just over 3 weeks now, and he has had 3 grand mal seizures in the past 9 days, i don't believe he's had any before, as my brothers neighbour called into the house every day, and would have told him if anything happened.

the vet has suggested giving him some aspirin for 3 or 4 days, less than a quarter of a tab each time. having done a quick google it seems most people are saying you can only give them a quarter of a baby aspirin tab every 2 or 3 days  so now not so sure. please can anyone advise, if they were asked to give their cat aspirin how much they gave them? i'm not asking for a diagnosis or anything, just don't know if i'm looking at US sites maybe, and their aspirin is different or something!

any experience greatly appreciated.

It's true that Aspirin is not good for cats as they have problems in breaking it down, but I would have another word with your vet in order to express your concerns. Hopefully, they will either be able to reassure you or suggest an alternative.

Sorry, as helpful as people are I would not medicate any animal (or person) on the say so of people you have never met (as helpful as they may be) All cats are different and whats good for one may be really bad for another (age, weight etc)
I'd recommend going back to the vet, or finding a different vet who can give you a firm treatment plan.
    Good luck with your kitty.

You're not asking for a diagnosis but you are asking for advice on the prescribed treatment, that is still against forum rules.

You must go back to your vet (or go to another vet) and discuss your concerns.

Only a qualified vet is allowed to prescribe for animals in the UK and on a forum you have no way of knowing if that person who purports to be a vet, actually is. Would you really risk your cats health on the basis of what Benny the bin-man (no offence meant to bin-men) who pretends he's a vet says?

As other posters have said, please do reconfirm with your vet any queries you have. It's not advisable to take medical action based on what's said on a forum. I hope your kitten gets well soon.

    I'll close this thread now.
