Living in Northfleet

Hi People,
This website has been a godsend in search for our first home :) I have just had a look at some flats in Northfleet and noticed that the flats there were pretty cheaper e.g. 110k for 2 bedroom new flat.

However, im usually sceptical about deals like this because it could possibly be that the area is trash. Therefore im asking if anyone on this board lives in or around Northfleet to provide me with some opinions?

Reason i have chose this is that the flats are pretty cheap and trains to london seem quite reasonable. However i just wanted a quick low down on the area as my girlfriend would also be commuting to work. The flat we have seen on the website is 0.3 miles to the station.

Cheers

    Hi,

I lived in Gravesend for a couple of years - moved out in 2005. Gravesend is depressing, Northfleet grim (unless it has regenerated to a huge degree in the last 5 years). It is quite multi-cultural though and transport links are very good though, local amenities fine. Why not visit it and see what you think (if you aren't miles away?)...
  • Thanks for the info Ellie! I guess its good as the property is brand new at 110k! Its not gonna be perfect but at least its a start!

The area is a bit of a dump, but some of the flats have river views.

Reminds me of Paul Hogan in Crocodile Dundee: "Well you can eat 'em. But they taste like !!!!!!."

  • ILW are you from northfleet then? a brand new flat for 110k is a good investment surely with good transport links to london?

I kive a few miles away but go through it quite often. My partner to used work at a carehome there and it did suffer rather a lot of vandalism. You can actually get terraced houses in Northfleet for not much more. Most of Northfleet is rather Chavy. I would not consider it an area for an "investment" but could be wrong

Wasn't this one of those areas that "investors" rushed to buy in: this time because Ebbsfleet International Station was being built and they thought house prices would go racing up in Northfleet?

The station has been built, the house prices didn't go racing up and Northfleet still looked like a grotty, chav area when I drove through it (car doors locked) a few months ago. I don't think Northfleet Station will be that good for travelling either. Isn't there a cement works there too?
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Rochester has a bit more character if you really want to be out that way. The Medway Towns do have a bit of a 'chav' tag on them, but people do still want to live in those areas, and there are worse places, I believe. Dartford's not too bad but probably pricier (if you want to be that way). Used to stay in Gravesend a lot (my ex lived in Cobham) and went out in places nearby. Fun while we were that way when I was 17-21, but not wouldn't fancy it now.

I thought trains were quite pricey still from the Medway Towns...
