Insect found in meal

Hi,
a friend found an insect in a meal bought for her in one of the larger supermarket chains. It wasn't in a ready meal or anything, but in the stores' cafe.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any case law, or examples that I can refer to on this.
She took a picture and saved the bug as well.
The funny thing is that she wasn't willing to make a big fuss of it until the manager of the cafe tried to palm her off, and said it wouldn't do any harm if she had ate it.

All I'd say to that is that last Friday I was really sick and it's the first time I've thrown up (through non-alcohol reasons) for about 15 years - no word of a lie, I was about 13 or 14 when I last threw up. There's no way I could tell what made me sick and finding an insect in the meal wouldn't necessarily be the reason she threw up.
Indeed.
I should have mentioned also that she later threw up because of it, and is a bit funny about food in general.0 -
Was your friend ever in the Brownies or girl guides?
If so, I'd be amazed if she had never eaten a campfire cooked meal that didn't have a fair number of beasties in, and these wouldn't have done her any harm.
Where I'm currently living, it's not unusual to find the odd bit of livestock in your food and I've yet to hear of anyone ever suffering because of it.
TBH, I think that a large % of the population in the west have gone paranoid over cleanliness, whether it's to do with food, kids getting dirty, animals etc.0 -
Depends on the meal, if the bug was well cooked it was unlikely to be dangerous.0

Depending on the bug I'd be unimpressed. Don't have much help to give accept that not everyone thinks it's acceptable to find insects in your food. Yuk.I love surprises!0

Is this your friend?
That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
You need to provide more info. What kind of food was it, and what kind of bug?
It wouldn't be unusual for example to find a bug in a salad, but it would be to find a cockroach in spag bol.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
