I see rather than respond to my post pointing out the gross hypocricy of demanding financial education in schools while writing sensationalist rubbish that distorts the facts and confuses people even more you have chosen to remove it. What a class act MSE.

This was in the papers yesterday:

British Gas cut its prices to consumers by 7 per cent in February, which helped it to sign up new customers, but it has recently been selling gas at a loss.

Dammit they should continue making a loss, meaning they'll have to put prices up later on. A fine argument indeed!

Same problem with the cure some people propose - re-nationalize them. They might run at a loss, but we'd be paying for it in the end. The only saving would be in duplication of work done by the various suppliers now, but then there'd be no competitition so prices could be whatever they wanted.
