Cat drinking the condensation!

Does anyone else have a dippy cat that laps the condensation off the windows? The windows are dripping at this time of year so he's got an endless task!

He has clean drinking water in a proper cat bowl downstairs!

He also drinks out of the bathroom sink and the toilet bowl if he was able to, except because of this I always leave the lid down.

Is this peculiar to my cat, the other one doesn't do it, or just peculiar?

I find with glass of water next to your bed you hear lappng sounds in the night. So now I've got a kiddies flask with a lid lol

I don't suspect kidney problems as he's always done it as he's too darned lazy to go downstairs!

You're not alone there! Cats tend to drink their water from anywhere else than their bowl. Ours like it from the toilet, bathroom basin, bath, any dirty rain water in the garden. Definitely from a glass left by the bedside. Also the kitchen sink. We now have a glass specifically by the kitchen sink for the cats to drink. Glass container for the water seems to be preferable to a plastic one!
  • Mine much prefers water from anywhere else. And will quite happily (and brazenly) drink cold tea out a mug left in his reach!

  • our cat LOVES to sit in the sink and drink the drips from the tap - he even meows to get it turned on if someone is in the room

then often comes onto the bed with a wet head and tail

but he also plays fetch and sits on command, so thing really he is a dog in disguise !

Ours is fond of trying the water down the toilet. Not a good idea considering she's only got three legs so balancing over a hole isn't the easiest task in the world - after fishing her out on a few occasions (and the ensuing huff), we now have to keep the lid down.

I swear she hasn't got the sense she was born with.

  • Not only your cat, mine even drinks out of the dog bowl before his own!!
  • I don't even bother putting water out for my cat anymore. He drinks from the dog bowl, the bath or sink. won't touch water from his own bowl. Every cat i've had has been the same. Have also had the pleasure of fishing a wet angry cat out of the toilet. Not nice! lol.

Another one here that avoids the cat water bowl like the plague! Preference is (in order) toilet; dogs water bowls; kitchen sink; rainwater puddles; outflow from drain pipe.

I have even seen him try to push the lid of the toilet seat up before now if I have left it down. So never leave it down now as have horrible thoughts of coming home one day to find him trapped in the loo after the lid shuts on top of him.

Re the toilet water drinking, why is it when people say don't feed your cat near their litter tray because they don't like to eat near where they do their business, are they perfectly happy to drink where we actually do our business? (Yes, I do flush everytime I go, before you ask!)
