So , you've previously gone off and made some unfounded accusations to the ASA against PayPal. And now you want someone to help you prove your case?

    Priceless. :rotfl:
Well, that was kinda my view...

Can IsPaypalSafer supply evidence that nowadays (with Chip-and-Pin, Verified by Visa and the like, Payment Services Regulations 2009, Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act), using a credit card is no less safe or safer than using PayPal
  • On a totally related note - you do realise the ASA is a toothless body that fails to enforce it's own decisions and whatever you do will not make a difference?

For example in a recent ruling on the AA, the AA simply reworded their advert (note - this 2nd URL redirects to a site with a 'naughty word' in the URL as well as 'naughty words' on the site) without really changing the meaning (which is what the complaint was about) to get around the ASA's ruling of "the advert must not be shown again in its current form."
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

Who says that the accusation that PayPal is only as safe and not safer than credit-cards is unfounded ?
    Do you ?

Wrong on just so many levels there chap.

What about a payment, where credit card (without PayPal) is not an option: the hundred thousands of private sellers (on eBay or elsewhere), who are unable to process a card payment. You can pay them either by cheque, bank transfer or PayPal (funded with or without a CC).

There is no doubt in my mind, in this case: “PayPal is safer!”

I'm sure the OP has done his homework and will tell us, what percentage of on-line transactions cannot be done by CC (unless PayPal is involved) :D.
  • in this case: PayPal is safer!”

Aren't you missing the point ?

I can also invent or list cases where using PayPal would be safer.
Just as I can detail many real life cases where using PayPal would be less safe.
    I use PayPal myself.
We can both bring cases where Paypal is less safe, where Paypal is safer, and where the two are equally as safe as each other.

Is it fair under these circumstances to advertise 'PayPal is safer' ?!?
    Without qualification ?!?

Amongst people who have commented on MoneySavingExpert and people I have spoken to elsewhere, the answer seems to me to be no by a clear majority.

The ASA, although I'm not sure their remit covers tag lines.

    I don't think, I'm missing the point! - This is not a far-fetched example.

Probably 2/3 of eBay auctions are with private sellers who cannot process credit cards. If it is safer for the majority
of transactions on eBay than it is safer on the total (66% is more than 33%).

eBay is still the site where most PayPal transactions take place. There will be more transactions worldwide
with individuals who cannot deal with CC, than with firms that can.

You should have the exact figures!

Yep, that's Paypal. For everything else there's Mastercard. :rotfl:
