Don't feel too bad about the mistake, it happens to most people at sometime or another, Yes, it is dumb but we are all dumb at times at least you admitted to it. I can't begin to tell you the number of incidents I've dealt with where no one would admit responsibility for their own actions.
Cheers StumpyPumpy.
Been offline a couple of days as I reinstalled the OS on my PC. Fortunately I had cloned/backed up everything important and am back to "normal". Just need to clone the new installation.
I did post the hijackthis log and your identification on another forum i use, https://www.techguy.org, and the initial reply was this type of trojan is almost impossible to remove. Rather than try to remove the damage a reinstall seemed the only option.
I have also changed all passwords and removed any stored credit cards details on my online accounts.
Thanks again0 -
got the email sent to me on the 18th. opened it but didnt click on the link as it was nothing of intrest (thankfully) only found out now that it was something dodgy as i dont come on the board alot0

Can not believe my post was removed, I like MSE Martins comments such as liking it to a house that will get broken into whatever you do. Whilst it's true that people will constantly try to break firewalls & site security it is possible to keep them at bay and my question would be how good was the site security in the first place?
Or were the email addresses stolen from a different area such as the mailing lists? These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
Me too.
Like an earlier poster, I use a different email address for every single thing I sign up for (so I can disable any that start receiving excessive spam, and so I can track down which organisation leaked it). I can absolutely confirm that the email address to which today's spam was sent is (was!) known ONLY to MoneySavingExpert. Since it's not publicly visible on MSE, the inevitable conclusion is that MSE has been hacked.0 -

Like, I would suspect, the majority of MSE users, I am happy that MSE have our best interests at heart and do everything in their ability to prevent (and manage) such incidents.0 -
Don't know if it makes any difference regarding the malicious email that this thread is about but I have just noticed that I use 2 different email addresses with MSE, the one that I use in connection with the forum which is the one I received the email on and the other which I use to receive the weekly MSE email which did not seem to receive any malicious email.
(Doubt this info is any use to MSE but posted it just in case.)0 -

It's just a PM from the site advising you about the issue.
It is safe to view!0
