I have just spent over £100 on Happyland toys for my grandaughter.I was asked to get Happyland because she loves it at her group where she goes. Have I wasted my money? should I take it all back? Has anyone had good experiences with it?

My daughter absolutely loves happyland. We have some fisher price little people stuff aswell but she dont seem as interested in that!! You can't beat happyland in mu opinion and obviously in your granddaughters too! Money very well spent I would say!!

    My daughters love Happyland! :j

Be careful with the 20% though, I've just been on the website and tried to buy the firestation which comes with free emergency vehicles. The extra 20% wasn't taken off this item so i don't think it applies to star buys :(

According to the site, the discount is taken off everything whether its a special or not, but not til u are at checkout. The garage I ordered, other discount codes previously given on here wouldn't work on, cause it came with a free car set, but the 20% discount ELC are offering this time was taken off at checkout.

happyland I have found to be OK but we prefer FP little people as it is more robust IMO. If she plays with it at her group and loves it then I think it's money well spent.

I agree, Fisher Price Little People was a big hit with my daughter, we had loads of it, it never broke, and is still like new 8 years later. You can often pick up their bigger sets half price in Toys r us or Tesco too. But if your granddaughter likes Happyland and already plays with it, I'm sure she'll be delighted with her Christmas pressies.

    Thanks for all your replies.

One of the things I have for her is the Village set from ELC. Has anyone bought this from Mothercare as I noticed in the picture on their website that it shows an extra item(Hospital I think) but it is not on the list of items. I emailed them about this but they didn't reply.
  • Not really complaining as I just got Tower of Doom and some extras BUT I was intending on getting DS a couple of the Build It sets too - they had 50% off yesterday and now only have 20% :(

Also does anyone know if ELC and Mothercare have an extended returns policy for items bought now for Christmas?

You haven't wasted your money - it's a toy that will be played with and loved.:D

Happyland is great in theory - small world play is excellent for pre schoolers as it gets them talking using a lot of vocabulary, which is an essential pre reading skill.

The problem specifically with Happyland, and ELC pre school toys in in general, is that the doors are safety doors, meaning the pivots they use to hold the doors on wear down after they've been played with, so they fall off, and don't take much to fall off again once that pivot has been worn down.

That really frustrated my kids - they still played with it and enjoyed it, but got annoyed that Happyland was a very friendly place with no doors for people to knock on, or to open for the fire engine, or police station. Society like it used to be I guess!:rotfl:
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
  • My daughter loves happy land, she has two boxes full and its very tempting to buy the new things when they come out, but i have to resist or it would take over. It is good, but as other have said, ELC make their products to come apart easily rather than break, which in a way is good, but very annoying when you have to keep putting the farm doors back on etc, in the end i put them away and it doesnt bother my daughter then, or me.
  • Thanks for the info- was going to order a few stocking fillers however they were going to charge £2 for store delivery so a bit pointless as only saved £5 in the 20% off might take a wonder down to the store....also worth a note on some of the items after a quick google the same/ similar items are still cheaper else where even after the 20% off
