Can't decide between an iPod touch or iPhone?

I've £250 to spend, that will buy me either a second hand 16gb iPhone or a new 32GB iPod Touch.

I don't make a lot of calls but then I like the idea of sat nat and being able to use twitter etc when out and about and not being reliant on WiFi, but the the phone would be second hand and could die at any moment where as I'll have a years warranty with the iPod.

I can't decide, any advice?

I guess the phone would be on contract, as using internet on mobile device can be pretty hefty.
If so i'd go for the HTC desire or the desire HD instead. Like an Iphone but much better IMO
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!
  • my iphone is still going 2 years on and it is not treated well by any means. they are pretty tough - only damage i have seen on them is the damaged screens from dropping.

i would get the iphone rather than the touch and then get the sim only tarriffs. no point carrying a mobile and a ipodtouch when it can all be in one unit.

i presume you thinking of a 3gs as the 3g doesnt have true sat nav and kills the battery very very fast
  • whats the cheapest deal for an older iphone around?

I had an Orange San Francisco, hated Android, I don't want a contract.

3G Does have GPS chip, the first iPhone 2G didn't. Only thing putting me of the iPhone 3G is its now dated and can't handle the newest updates from Apple and a 3GS is over my budget. Grrr decisions decisions

I sold my iPod Touch and bought an iPhone. The reason being that with the Touch I was continually searching for a wireless hotspot. With the iPhone you can browse where-ever you wish.

Some of the T-Mobile (Orange I guess) SIM only deals for the iPhone arn't too bad or you can do what I did which is buy an O2 sim from eBay for £30 or so that has free internet for 12 months.

thats exactly what I was thinking the new ipod touch comes with retina display, video calling camera, gyroscope, ect. the 3G or the 3GS don't come with any of that, also the ipod touch 4 will be supported from apple for a couple of years to come the 3G and 3GS will be far shorter.

Not necessarily, I have a 30day sim for my iphone with a 250MB internet bundle added on (£5 extra per month) I do use it a fair bit and it lasts ages, never used all 250mb up. Plus you can download the free Orange 'Your Account' app to keep track of how much internet you have used and how much you have left.
    £2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit :)) - £588
  • Well if the 3g does have gps which im yet to find after 2 years then its pretty rubbish.

It shows you position on a map based on a triangulation from the nearest mobile masts. And it wont give you turn by turn directions, the tomtom app is £60 ish so its better to just buy a sat nav

tmobile PAYG you pay £20 and for the next 6 months you are given 1GB a month to use (therefore £40 a year for efectively unlimited internet), or virgin mobile it is just £5 a month for 1GB (therefore £60 a year)

definately not expensive esp compared to o2s crappy 250MB for £10 a month :rotfl:
infact since everyone has a smartphone with data now, if you use email instead of texts then it just saves you even more money

GPS does not mean voice turn by turn navigation, it just means it can pinpoint your exact position, if you go outside and open google maps on a 3G it will show you exactly where you are with no larger blue circle as it has pinpointed exactly where you are (providing you havent blocked google maps from using the GPS chip)
