Problems with DVLA

  • Hey Cyril.
I would put money on your car having been zapped by a patroling Police Car and their automatic numberplate recognition system dinged up that it had just registered an unlicensed car . By virtue of that their was (possibly automatic) download of the location to the DVLA system . No one at the issuing end is aware the car was on a trailer at the time. TELL THEM>

if this was the case there would be photo proof as traffic cops anpr systems take a snap shot of the offending car for prosocution purposes!

as being on a trailer technically the vehicle wasnt "ON THE ROAD" if every car untaxed was hit by anpr whilst on a trailer, everyone scrapping their cars and had them collected would have a fine and those who trailer classic cars to shows, rally's etc.

a statement from your mechanic in his opinion the vehicle couldnt be driven and that he worked on it and was trailor'd away will help at court.

    Ok here's an update.

I wrote to them expressing the concerns registered from this thread and asked that they provide proof of the alleged offence .

They wrote back and said they would look into the fact that the car was on a trailer and get back to me.

They got back to me saying due to some act of 1988 it doesn't matter where the car was and can even be on private land. As I had stated the car ' wasn't under my control' to let them have the mechanics details.

I think they are ducking and diving to twist anything you say around to their benefit. I have had two letters each stating the ' alleged offence ' took place in different areas, one named as a road and the other named as a car park .

And no evidence whatsoever has been supplied.
