I've never done a speed awareness course and I also have a clean licence :)

Cheshire's is run by the local council rather than a 3rd party provider.

Thank you all for the advice, I have looked at courses in Cheshire and Gtr Manchester and I think Bolton might be nearer than Cheshire. Its at the Bolton Arena. £60, 4 hours and no driving. Will have to speak to hubby tonight and ask for some really good directions! On RAC route planner they seem to take you down lots of roads, no motorway from Southport which is a shame. (easier to get to Knowsley but am worried about the driving bit so will travel further). As mentioned above for which I`m very grateful, its cheaper as well - won`t cost £28 in petrol in in my CRV. I never thought about travelling further thought it had to be a local one. Will they not query why I have travelled to Bolton when could have gone to Knowsley? or are they not really bothered where you live?
    Thanks

Not sure about the option as I was given TTC so you had to book at one of their courses. It didn't need to be Knowsley but that was the nearest to me. If you need to go via motorway and you don't mind back tracking you can go M58 M6 M61.

Bolton isn't much further than Liverpool if you're coming from Southport and it's mostly motorway and A-roads to get there. That in itself seems like a valid justification to me.

Simplest route is probably cross country to Chorley then down the M61 to Bolton.

On the reverse of the form it gives a current ist of course suppliers so I`m assuming I can use one of them. Gtr Manchester is listed.
It just says if I want to book online with AADriveTech (UK) I need to call them first to get an id number. Don`t really know who that is or if its applicable, any ideas?
    Thanks

The procedures vary slightly per police force so all I can advise you to do is read all the paperwork you sent very carefully, including the FAQ sheets. Typically they will want you to send the form back to Merseyside Police and tick a box to say you wish to take the course in a different area, then either write in or tick Greater Manchester.
  • Don't be afraid of an on-the-road assessment. Most drivers will benefit from professional advice since most people pick up bad habits over the years. I found the course I took useful. It did not have a road element but the instructors were friendly and approachable so I would not have minded if it had.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I am going to try and go to Bolton its not much further milage than Knowsley. According to the paperwork I think I can apply on line and don`t have to send any forms back as it says Northamptonshire CTO will automatically be updated when or where you book.

Just one more question if you can help: would they expect me to go on the Merseyside course as I live in Merseyside or because they have given you the list an you go to any course anywhere in the country? don`t want to get knocked back but don`t want 50 questions when I go as to why I chose the course I did.

    Thanks.
