HSBC PPI Complaint Nightmare ** Awful Customer Service **

Hi there,
I have been having trouble with the HSBC for months but it really came to a head this September when I found out;
      * They had upgraded my current account to a premium account with "benefits". But I did not need any of the benefits the plus account offered so it was inappropriate to give it to me. The joke was I had paid them £596 for the privilege. Crazy!! After a rather furious exchange of emails to the bank I was finally given the money back a couple of weeks ago. * They had put unlawful over draft charges on my account. again they finally settled this a few weeks ago. The wording they used was a gesture of goodwill!! It wasn't a gesture at all they owed it to me. * The biggest issue is still ongoing with them and that is a complaint for just under £2k for missold PPI. They have told me today this will take up to eight weeks to investigate. I am furious as I have been in correspondence with them about it since September!!
I have been banking with the HSBC for 14 years and it is a complete shambles. They try and justify reasons for ripping you off and make it sound as though it is you as the consumers fault. To top it off when you want to speak to someone you have to go through the call centre which in itself is a nightmare and you end up getting no information from them which leaves you more stressed than you were before. They always tell you someone will call you back and on the rare occasion someone does it is normally 5 or so days after your original call. It would also be nice to speak to a human being rather than a person who is just relaying the company spiel like a machine!! You can't even phone your branch direct.

I have had to take three separate days off work to go and see my bank manager because they are not open on weekends and the branch closes at 16:30 daily but I work full time. I also work away a lot so on two occasions I have attended branches local to my office to see someone and they have refused to see me and tell me to contact my registered branch. In regards to the PPI issue the bank manager has said he couldn't possibly help it needs to go to their central team but it was my branch that missold it to me in the first place.

At the time I took out the loan agreements and credit card with them I was still naive enough to believe the banks act in your best interests (well I was young at the time!!). They take advantage wherever they can.

It took me over three weeks to get all the documentation then on the back of my second letter after all of the waiting for them they have the cheek to say it will take them another 8 weeks. Appalling!!!! Which will mean this complaint will have been going on for 5 months. They should take into account the delays experienced awaiting the paperwork that THEY had lost!!!

What I do not understand is that the banks are quick enough to take the money but a lot less eager to pay it back.

It is so stressful and when you speak to the bank they make you feel like you are in the wrong!! As soon as this is resolved I will be moving away from the HSBC as quickly as possible and I will never trust the advice given to me by a bank in future. They are crooks!! Not just that you pay a fortune out when you have to ring and chase them as then you are left on hold for god knows how long to get a third hand message as the complaint team do not have phones apparently!!

The worlds local bank!! ha do not make me laugh!!

I feel a little better after that rant!! x

    • HSBC have now said that most PPI complaints are being put on hold pending the judicial review. I rang the Ombudsmen this morning and they have advised that as far as they are concerned the bank have no right to do this and it is busines as usual.

If any of you get on hold letters go straight to the Ombudsmen for the complaints form. They are really friendly and sympathetic to the consumer!!

What made me laugh the most is that the bank said they were putting the cases on hold to get a fair reult for the bank. If they were fair to their consumer and didn't use bully boy tactics they would not be in this situation now!!
    • HSBC now have a 16 week wait for PPI complaints

      Hi,

I fully sympathise. Although your message was some time ago, I have just seen it. I went into my local branch yesterday, where I have been a customer for some 30 odd years. I was asking for a small loan (£3000), and they would not even consider me, due to the fact that 8 years ago I had a Managed Loan, and that I was not paying into my account at least £700 per month on a regular basis. My managed account has been immaculately serviced for the last 8 years, and actually finishes in May 2012, and I will not be blackmailed into putting my salary into the account with HSBC just to get a loan of £3000. The £700 would have to be put in the account on a regular basis for at least 6 months before I would even be considered for any kind of loan.

You might as well be talking to a machine!!! you would probably get more sense anyway. It appears that banks these days do not make any allowances for the way you have conducted your account(s), or the length of time you have been with them. The fact that I took out a Managed loan 8 years ago obviously shows that I had a problem at the time, but you would have thought that some consideration would have been taken. I know that my credit history is now very good, and that there would not be a problem with servicing any new loan.

Now, that feels better just to have got it off my chest. I know it will not make one iota of difference to the way banks operate, but it's good to put it all down in print.

By the way, any good tips on reclaiming PPI?

      Ray
