Real life MMD: Cat has licked our food, should we eat it?

OK so we didn't have a door on kitchen when first moved in. Lamb for sunday dinner then saw cat leap up and swipe joint on to floor. Went over damn quick and swiped his bum with back of hand and rinsed leftover lamb and put in fridge. (links to show who's boss etc.Don't tel rspca) Cat sat with back to me for about 20 mins then slinks off through cat flap. Later returns with crashing and banging through cat flap with pheasant in gob. Looks at me - "I don't need your meat!" Lives happily ever after with us returning with flurry of feathers/half eaten rabbit, squirrel etc in utility room. What's KiteKat anyway? r.i.p. Jeremy, totally irreplaceable, mate. Also no rats around after. Roysie0

i share with my pet rats so a cat would be nothing
although any cat getting past my dogs wouldve earned the joint anyway0 -
Divide the joint into licked and unlicked segments and then have a long hard think about which segment you serve your husband. Seriously though the only sensible thing to do is cook it a little longer, I prefer lamb cooked the longer the better.
On the subject of training cats I can confirm it is possible because we had a cat that used to rip at the carpet and we retrained him out of the habit with a water pistol, and I became a much better shot as a bonus! RESULT!
This post made me laugh nearly as much as I did at the pearl necklace post from yesterday, that has now mysteriously dissappeared!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:To anyone that tells you "There is no I in team" say no there isn't
But there ARE TWO I'S IN COMMISSION and I dont get paid "Team"

Vets are not the best people to ask about nutrition. Also do they sell Iams/Hills? Loads in their waiting room? Wonder if they are on commission....
So who are then? My vet doesn't sell cat food. And to be honest, most people are going to (rightly) follow the advice of their vet who has trained in animal health for 5 years, than listen to the advice of random pet owners on forums.
As I said, it's quality not quantity that counts. A fillet steak is 100% meat (i.e. muscle-based protein in this context). If you only fed your cat on that, he would become nutritionally deficient and unwell. And you don't need a PhD in biochemistry to work that out, although admittedly, it does aid with understanding of the finer points of metabolism. The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight shoes.0 -
We have 2 cats, both regularly wormed etc. They don't jump up on the kitchen worktops, but one will happily help herself to the food on the table (part of the reason she can't get to the kitchen worktops). We try to discourage them but I'd rather eat something they have licked than something licked by most humans. If you're squeamish, as has been mentioned before, trim the offending piece of meat (and pass to cat!) and carry on with your expensive but hopefully yummy dinner. Let OH make his own decsions, but enjoy the lamb - I bet the cat did!0

I think the cat saliva has some kind of antiseptic properties because when a cat has injured it self it usually licks its cut and thereby it heals itself. When a female cat who has just given birth to her kittens she washes them and everything else with her saliva. But if your worried about it just cut out the bit that was licked like someone suggested. Its a shame to throw it away.0

It's a bit weird when you think about it. You happy to kill an animal to eat it. But when you pet licks it, you are thinking about throwing it away?
Isn't it a little bit disrespectful to the animals who's life your taken, so you can eat them? That you would throw it away just because the cat licked it? I would eat it on the basis that that animal gave it's life for you as well.So so SO tired of being ripped off, and mislead
Hope sharing saves some pain.0 -
if you don't want it give it to me:beer: what about all those people who let their dog lick their faces before they have dinner then let them
lick the plate:eek:please do not pick on me for my grammar,I left school at fifteen and worked in the building trade for 55years ,

Its not about 'random pet owners on a forum', the links i posted give the breakdown of ingredients in the foods you mentioned. Both contain rather a lot of grain, and since cats are obligate carnivores i'm pretty sure grain is not something they should be consuming on a daily basis.
No i'm not a biochemist, i'm a mathematician, but that is neither here nor there. I would never give my cat Iams or Hills, as you say it is quality that counts, and neither of them are quality cat foods. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
