catalina66 wrote: »Hi, I tried changing the settings but won't send or receive in OE ... trying Thunderbird as that says it can find the settings ...
comes up with suggesting the IMAP rather than POP settings, and
INCOMING ... imap.googlemail.com ... 993 ... SSL/TLS
OUTGOING .. smtp.googlemail.com ... 465 ... SSL/TLS
make sure in username box only type first part of email address ... lesson learnt, lol ... now it works to receive mail ... but not to send ... says login to server smtp.googlemail.com failed
Glad that I helped previously.
In order to get this sorted, you will need to contact VM UK customer services as advised previously.
Once you have got it fixed, let me know and I will advise how to escalate within VM. If you are lucky, you may get some money back via your monthly invoice being reduced.:)0 -
As a previous poster said, it's the email address you are trying to send to that is the problem.
The error message in your message is "error 550 Invalid recipient"
I would double check the email address you are typing, does it have any . or - or _ that you may have missed? Is this the first time you have sent to this email address, if so have you been given the correct email address?ITV Winners Club #87 :eek:0 -

hi sirmarcus, many thanks again ... will definitely email VM and let you know ... great that you offer to advise about escalating, and hadn't thought about any reduction in the bill ... cool, as I don't recall an email from VM about the migration, but it's very very likely I just missed that ... thanks again, Cat :-)0 -

hi debsy42 ... I had missed that the message said recipient ... sorry, head's mashed with benefits having been wrongly stopped and all kinds of chaos, having to appeal ... missing all kinds of things, especially as soon as technical stuff is involved right now! But the emails I was sending to are emails I've sent to before fine. Many thanks, Cat0 -
It's not VM or the email server settings. The original error message says that one of the recipients was invalid, which tells us that it sent OK to the other recipients. So as debsy stated, either the address is incorrect, or it no longer exists.

Macman and debsy42....Please refer to catalina66 posting timed at 1742hrs tosay, where the individual advises that he/she 'have sent an email using the googlemail server and it seems to have gone through.'
OP (aka catalina66)...The problems does not appear to be with 'email address you are trying to send to'. The problem appears to be with how your PC email client is set up. Contact VM UK as advised in a previous post.0 -

Dear sirmarcus ... you're a gentleman, and I'm so glad your brain is so switched on, as I was getting really confused myself! ... I should have said clearer, to macman and debsy42 also, that when the error first happened I was replying to someone who'd just emailed me, and then I'd sent a test email thru my second email address, that I'm always getting forwarded emails from.
Just got inspired to google Thunderbird and VM, and got to this page, used these settings, and it's fixed!

So pleased it's fixed, and thanks for all the great advice. Really appreciated it. And Thunderbird's cool, a nice change.
Best regards, Cat0 -
