Servicing question
Hi -
My car is due for its first service, in the past I have always taken my cars to Allen Ford (where I buy them from) but its about £200.
I wanted to see if there is any real benefit for me taking it to the dealership or if i'm better off just taking it to a local private garage?
Thanks!
Clare

We always take our cars to a local garage we trust. As I understand it you do not need to have adealer service to retain your waranty anymore as long as you use a VAT rgistered garage.
Id say always use the garage you trust most.

You need to ascertain what's included in the service. Garages usually offer an 'interim/basic service' or a 'Full Service'. Some manufacturers advise an interim one year/10k miles and a full service the next year.
If your car is only a year old it'll probably just need an interim service, so £200 sounds a bit steep.0 -
My first service for my Fiesta was £120 inc vat, that was at a main dealer as I didn't want any hassle with my warranty.
Have a ring round a few local dealers, most of them offer price matching.
I've just booked my car in for its second service and was quoted £159.00 and £181.00 by two local dealers. I went with the latter (my preferred choice) who matched the cheaper price.

sometimes the dealers do more than just service the car - ie clean and check brakes is part of the service, rather than just changing the bits that need changing - but there isn't really an advantage. I know one guy who had just over £1000 knocked off his car for no service history (4yr old car) but as the garage he bought the car from charges £350+ per service, he was actually quids in. It's only really newish "posh" marque or specialist cars that would really have a problem with no dealer service history0

I agree. The last thing you need if a warranty repair is needed is for the main dealer/manufacturer to start getting picky about the servicing.0 -
