  • I totally sympathise. I can't go naked, face or body. Surprisingly, sunflower oil is good if you have nothing in the house. I use it on my face and body.

I have moisturiser in the house, and sunflower oil. But I'm in work right now, with nothing handy, just have to suffer on til hometime!
Will still lay off the harsh cleansers and makeup for a few more days, but the moisturiser is coming back!

  • If you have a corner shop/mini supermarket near you, you should be able to get some.

It could well be Rosacea but you will need your doctor to diagnose this. It has to be controlled by long term antibiotics, a good cleansing regime and skin sensitive make up.
I have that and the dr just gave me a cream! they didn't tell me it could be a long term thing!

@reehsetin, your doctor sounds about as good as mine!
I've been with my skin and he said it was just the way my face was. Gee thanks!

Once you are diagnosed with rosacea it is a condition you have to live with. The redness will always be there. Dry skin can be controlled by good hydration and cleanse and moisturising regime. The flare up of spots can be dealt with by low dosage anti-biotics. You can take these for years.

Make up can be used to tone down the redness. :)

bratz81 I could never go without moisturiser, also make sure you drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated.

Mineral make up is gentle on the skin and you can apply as little or as much as you need.

This time of year is unforgiving on your skin. You need to protect it from cold winds, crisp mornings and central heating. These all irritate and dry the skin.

If you can get to Boots or the like this would be my emergency moisturiser if I was out Simple ~ Kind to Skin ~ Hydrating Light Moisturiser.

You really have my sympathy as it took me months to get mine under control.

Bless you, it's awful not knowing what to do about your skin. I had lovely skin until I had my children and it's been all over the place ever since! I like the Liz Earle range but it is pricey, so recently I have bought some Simple products and am getting on well with them. The richer moisturiser was found to be better than some expensive eye creams in a Which survey a few months back. I do use a muslin cloth to take cleanser off though, and have used a flannel like this since I read about it when I was 14! (20 odd years ago...boo!)

If you have spot spots (ie not to do with the rosacea) then the best thing by a mile is a cream called Quinoderm - it's less than a couple of quid, just ask the pharmacist. It can stain clothing so you must wash hands well after putting it on, but it will sort spots out really quickly without drying the skin out or making it flaky. Read about it on netmums, tried it and wish I'd known about it years ago. Even sorts out the monthly monster on my chin!

I hope you find something that works for you. So much of it is trial and error, and it can be expensive trying lots of products to find something that works. Good luck x

    Thanks RachelG.
The only plus point of my skin right now is the lack of spots. Just my cheeks acting up and the extreme dryness right now.
I'm definitely giving up on the cleanser I was using, it's far too harsh and drying, so the hunt is on for a gentler one.
I did use Liz Earle, but it's expensive p&p to here, and I think it's kinda expensive anyway. And yes, you're right, trying different things is expensive, and I hate trying something that doesn't work and then having to give it away. Feel like I might as well have burnt the money if you get me?

I have a friend who suffered with poor skin for years but was obsessed that the whole clinique regime was the best she could do for it...turned out in the end that she was actually reacting to the products and as soon as she changed her skin improved. I also know of others who did not get on with clinique.

Me and a good few friends who have suffered with spots and problem skin now use Dermalogica products - special cleansing gel is a great and light facial wash. I'm not keen on their mosituriser personally, i use an Estee Lauder light daytime one - works for me - any richer and i find it rolls off my face. I don't use a night time moisturiser as i think it is too much for my skin and seems to increase spots.

It is trial and error but from my experience and that of friend if your current products are not improving your skin or possibly aggravating it you should stop using them as it could be a reaction. try and start afresh with completely different products, but give them a chance!

Good luck - you'll get it sorted in the end!
