Hi ya, your skin sounds a lot like mine.

Here is what i do and it is looking its best.
1 Jojoba oil is sebo regulator, it is perfect for this kind of skin, please do not use any other oil.
I wash my face everyday with water, put a bit of jojoba oil in my face masage it then 10 min, later i put my moisturizer on ( i am using the yellow clinique cream too) and some eye cream... then mineral make up.
I take my make up off in the same way... use my jojoba oil again then wash it off then i have my own toner ( aromateraphy) 120ml water + 2 drops lavanda oil + 2 drops geranium. It is working quite well.
If i have spots, i use tea trea oil only there as it can be a bit strong.

  • I must admit that I don't tend to wear makeup. It seems to work. Most people think I'm about 15 years younger.

I am on an economy drive, as I was widowed last year. If I were trying to treat myself, I might consider using a face wash, but I'm also trying to get rid of the clutter in my bathroom, and am trying to use up all his toiletries. I tend to use Simple toner when I want a toner, as it's unscented and gentle.

Through the years, I have tried assorted cheap and expensive things, and a lot of them haven't impressed me.

Once or twice a week, I use bicarb as a face scrub. It's really good. Be gentle with your cheeks though - it's very easy to get carried away as it's a nice open area of skin, and they need really gentle treatment. You'll know what I mean if you do too much on them, and they tingle. Concentrate on your nose, the line between nose and face, corners of lips, and the neck.

  • I've suffered like this for a while too - and like you did the Clinique thing. I took mine back to the clinique counter in Boots (without the receipts) and they did a few testers on my skin with a view to swapping the products for the redness solutions equivalents - the redness solutions burned as they applied it to my skin so I ended up with a refund :) I looked a bit strange as I walked around town afterwards with one very red cheek (until it calmed down though):o

I currently use the boots radiance hot cloth cleansers of an evening followed by bio oil (I only have the cloth luke warm though). And in the morning I only wipe my face over with a warm cloth and use whatever serum and moisturiser I have. I couldn't always do this - I had to use moisturisers for sensitive skin but have found I can now use up my old stuff so long as I oil in an evening.

Believe me though my skin tells me if I miss more than one evening without the oil!!!

    good luck x

Cetaphil is very good but hard to come by in the UK. Another brand is la roche-posay - absolutely amazing and approved by dermatologists.

I have rosacea, and it really is trial and error what you can and cannot use. You might be able to use the cleanser from one brand, but the moisturizer from another.

Yes, go completely naked for a good week. Do you live in a hard water area? That always makes my skin worse. If you do live in a hard water area, try bottled mineral water to splash your face. Sounds bonkers, but might work.

Tea - I'm an addict too, but have had to give up strong black-leaf teas. Try green or white leaf instead.:o

You should be able to see a dermatologist through your GP. Be insistent. What is happening to you might be any number of things, not necessarily rosacea.

Well guys, just thought I'd update.
On the advice of Fen1, I've decided to 'go naked' for a week and let my skin settle before trying anything else on it.
Today is day 1! So far I splashed my face with a little water in the shower and that was it. Dried it and voila! I don't look as bad as I expected actually, just a little pale and tired looking and my face doesn't seem too shiny yet.
We'll see how it goes, and if my skin recovers a little and I'll update :)

@londonsurrey, what do you cleanse your skin with, and what does the milk do?

I just remembered, I think the milk does pretty much what Boots' Protect and Perfect does, but without any weird added preservatives.

It adds nutrition, gently loosens dead cells at the surface of the skin, and has a subtle lightening effect.

the lightening affect makes sense, I know you can make a natural skin 'bleach' from milk and lemon juice, but good to know about the other benefits :)
