    Fen1, thanks for the hugs!
When you say no washing/moisturiser etc, can I still splash it with water?! I don't think I could go a full week without washing it at all, with the oily patches. And no makeup!!

Regarding triggers, I didn't change anything cleanser etc wise until after, same with makeup and so on...I'm a creature of habit! I don't take any medication so don't think it was that. Could be stress mind you, I have had a very stressful year past.

Do you not have to pay for dermatologists? To be honest, I don't think I can afford it right now, or can I ask my GP for a referral?

I've to cut out tea?!?!?! I'm addicted to tea, and dunno if I can give up totally. Can't I just cut down *cue puppy dog eyes*

@Rikki, I've never heard of rosacea needing anti-biotics, and my mum has had it for years...is that true?
I wasn't asking for medical advice, just advice on cleansers.
My doctor hasn't diagnosed anything, nor does he seem interested. I just want a cleanser that won't dry out my cheeks any more, nor make my forehead/nose oilier

Anti-biotics are to clear up the spots. You take them as and when you need them to control the outbreak of spots. You take them long term, they are low dose you alter the amount you take.
If you skin is just dry and red then anti-biotics are not needed.

The skin regime is trial and error till you fine what suits your face. The further I stay away from water the better my skin feels.

Bare minerals foundation is good for toning down the redness, is all natural and doesn't irritate the skin.

EDIT: Go back to your doctor and ask him is it rocasea and what treatment there is.

  • Sounds odd, but I have combination skin and use it.
Was recommended it by the gorgeous Asian girl doing my eyebrow threading. Apparently, it's a traditional beauty tip.

    Wash/cleanse your face and neck.
Pour a tablespoon of milk into a container, and using a cotton pad, dab it over your face and neck.
    Leave to dry.
    Then wash off.

Hi regarding the clinique products. Did you buy them from a Clinique counter and was it fairly recently? Did she take some details at the time, or do you have arecord of your purchase? If so I would go back with the part-used products at a quiet time and have a chat with the Clinique assistant, explaining how you feel your skin is reacting to the products.

I've always found these companies very helpful if you go back with the right attitude. I wouldn't necessarily expect a refund, but it may be, depending on the circumstances, you are offered something in the way of a replacement product as a goodwill gesture as you obviously spent a few quid on their products initially.

    Worth testing the water!

    Thanks for the replies guys.

@londonsurrey, what do you cleanse your skin with, and what does the milk do?

@Bronnie, it was a clinique counter, but I haven't kept the reciepts or anything, so don't know if they would change it. She did take some details, but they were to sign me up for some newsletter, not sure if they were for the purchase itself. Although going back couldn't hurt :)

@rikki what do you use instead of water? I can't imagine not needing water to wash but I have a limited imagination lol.
Is the bare minerals foundation just powder? I don't know if that would offer enough coverage for me with this redness, but then it might if the redness went down.

I first have to say that a sudden change in skin would be someting to see a doctor or dermatologist about, it could be hormonal.

I experience something like you're describing but maybe less severe. My mum has rosacea mainly on her nose and I find avoiding her major trigger foods(warming foods(chilli, garlic etc), dairy, chocolate, bananas) eases my red nose.
I use african black soap (sometimes with green clay and herbs, both soaps from akoma skincare) to wash my face and remove make up.
I don't feel it's 100% necessary but I use La Roche Posay micro-exfoliant lotion to combat blocked pores and tone skin.
Then a non-greasy moisturiser currently olay as I can't afford anymore La Roche Posay! My cheeks only get dry and red(almost looks like a fungal infection) when I'm very stressed, and it goes after a few targeted applications of raw shea butter(from akoma).
I use a natural facemask 2-3 times a week, sometimes not even on my cheeks. Either green clay or cupcake fresh face mask from lush(could use rhassoul clay instead). Neither of these irritate my sensitive skin, they genuinely even out my skin tone and calm down my slightly oily nose/forehead for a few days.
I know it's tempting to cover oily or red areas with make up but don't! Make up will just irritate it further, even mineral powder aggrevates my nose!

  • I wash my face with pretty much any cheap shower gel, just to get the dirt off.

From what I understand, the milk adds all kinds of nutrition to the skin. Additionally, the lactic acid in it acts as an extremely gentle exfoliant for dead skin.

I put a tablespoon of milk into a chinese tea cup (because the smallest container I have), and take it into the bathroom with me.
After showering, I apply it to my face. Then I continue moisturising and dress, and tidy the bathroom.
By this time, the milk has dried. So I wash it off using warm water, and finish off with cold water to close the pores.

    Then I moisturise.
If I'm going out, I use a normal SPF moisturiser.
If I'm staying in the house, I use my OCM mixture of castor oil, vitamin E, with a drop of lavender oil instead of a moisturiser. Great stuff, but makes my face a bit shiny for half an hour!

    I'm 39, if that helps.

I'm in pretty much the same boat, only I got rosacea ages ago and then more recently spots all under the skin when in the past I'd only suffered a few blackheads etc. I've also noticed my skin is a lot dryer than it used to be.

My doctor gave me the low dose antibiotics, but due to a common side effect I don't want to take them as it's a 6 month course.

I'd like to know what is the best value/super cheap way to moisturise my face and reduce the spots.

As for as the rosacea goes, I don't think there's much else that can be done to cure it. :(
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

    thanks londonsurrey!
Sorry for all the questions, but does the showergel not aggravate your skin at all, and does it take off makeup and so on?

I use this cleanser Elemis pro-radiance cleanser and Liz Earle cleanse and polish They are both creams you massage on leave for a minute then wipe of with a soft wet warm cloth.

Bare minerals does give the coverage you just use as much as you need. It's easy to add to during the day and it removes the shine. I've never worn foundation at hated the way it made my skin feel but I have no problems with bare minerals or the mineral alternatives.

Always protect your face from the sun, use a good sun protection factor.

    EDIT:
*I don't buy from the links, it's just to show the products.

**Bare minerals is just powder but you apply with a brush until you have the coverage you want.
