MOT Advisory

Had my MOT on my Pug 206 today and got an advisory...

Offside front (rack end) Drag link end ball joint slight play (2.2.B.1f)

What exactly is one of these?!?

I've googled the MOT code and I'm getting all kinds of different descriptions for it.

it is similar to a track rod end, part of your steering gear. if you google 'peugot 206 drag link' and click on images it will show you a pic. if it was only an advise i wouldnt worry but if you want it fixing it wont cost much. parts plus 1/2 hr labour

Reminds me of one night when a boy racer came flying around a local traffic island, trying to show off to us in his 206 GTI....

As he came screeching around on his cheapo tyre's, his track rod gave way and his wheels ended up pointing in opposite directions as he came to a VERY abrupt halt in the middle of 2 lanes :rotfl:

  • Drag or Drop links connect the Antirollbar to the shock absorbers.... If they're worn you'll probably get a slight knocking noise occasionally when you go over bumps.

Cheap and easy enough to swap... It wont give way and the wheels wont splay either.

i dont know what cars youve been working on but a drag link is a balljoint connected to the steering mechanism and if it failed the wheels would splay out

  • So if I was to buy one off eBay or Euro Car Parts, what would I be looking for exactly?

Depends on what suspension is fitted to your particular car.
There's at least two variants, and drag link can mean all the above as well.
Go back and ask the garage to point out the part they have advised on.

Drag link translates to steering rack track arm or steering rack track rod :) Pretty much normal for most Peugeot 206's and 307's

It also translates to the drop link if you have the variant where the anti-roll bar is attached to the strut, rather than the lower arm.

Wouldn't be the rack end though, thinking about it.

If that was the case the advisory would most likely be anti roll bar linkage.

Drag link will be the steering rack part as their is no other description in the mot test.

not neccesseraly, for the wheels to pop out the rack end and wishbone ball joints would have to give out this is when the wheel will end up in the arch or pointing out one drag link or stabaliser link bar defective wont cause this to happen.

drag link bar drop link bar stabaliser link bar anti roll link bar all verient names for the same part.
