Tiscali forgot me

I started my Tiscali account in AUg 05 when I moved into my new flat, they seemed really good (maybe I should have done more research, if only I knew of this site back then) so I signed up, it all went wel lfor a while the I decided to swith method of payment to direct debit.
When I started to try an get my finances in order I checked all the DDs coming out of my account and couldnt find one for tiscali, so I checked my credit card thinking maybe in a mad moment I put it on that, but nope no sign of it. So I rang Tiscali an they said I had no DD set up and I owed them nearly £300, I've had no letters/bills from them even when I moved to a new home a few months ago, I would have thought somebody would have noticed.
I know that this is partly my own fault for not checking the DDs were going out but you would have thought they would have noticed that I haven't paid in over 10 months.
I know I have to pay but I'm tempted to see how long it takes them to actually bill me. (bad idea i know as may end up with BIG lump sum to pay)

Anyone else been forgotten?

  • I had the same with Bt although every time I called up they kept saying that the account was in the process of being set up (Even though I'd been using it!). 6 months on I called them when I realised they still hadn't taken a payment and they didn't even have any of our details of the account even though we'd had everything through and were using the service! In the end they wiped the slate clean and we started from scratch and they didn't charge us a penny as it was their error, even though it would've totalled nearly £300!

  • I had a similar problem with British Gas, resulting in a £300 gas bill when I finally got it through. From memory they knocked 10% off it as compensation.
