Asda sold me out of date products??

I must admit I have never had a bad experience with Asda or Tesco - in that if the item has gone past date, or even fruit/veg which is mouldy/damaged even when WITHIN date, I have had a replacement, apology and sometimes the money back as well.
Only bad experience I had was in Morrisons a few years ago. I bought 2 big multi-packs of crisps - 12 or 18 I think. A few days later one child eating a packet complained they were 'green'.....I assumed she meant as in a green potato, if you see what I mean. I checked the pack to re-assure her, and found it out of date !!
I returned to the store with the receipt, fully expecting a refund and apology. Instead after much scrutiny the cs said that when I bought the crisps, they were in date ( 2 days to go !!) therefore no refund.
I argued that when I bought a pack of 12/18 crisps ( in this case 2 packs) I hardly expected to have to comsume them ALL within 2 days. They hadn't been displayed as nearing their sell-by-date !!
She was adament that I wasn't getting a refund or a replacement.
This was a few years ago. I went away and have since checked EVERY date of food/drink I buy in Morrisons, inc tins, bottles, packets etc.
I have always checked the date of fresh produce like bread, milk, eggs, yogurts, fruit etc, but assumed tins, jars and packets had a MUCH longer shelf life.
If this ever happened to me again, I would definitely be on to Trading Standards, even though I assume 'technically' they were in the right. How is the customer supposed to go on when we are encouraged to buy in bulk - BOGOFs and multi packs of everything from beans to drinks.

Trading standards will not be interested in best before dates as it is not illegal to sell product after the best before date, as another poster points out they shouldn t make you ill but the the product could start to break down ie colouring in pop may fade.
Where as use by dates are different and they can get massive fines if shown not to be due diligently checking their dates as you can get seriously ill from bacteria in out of date dairy and meat products."Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -
I bought a chicken slice from Asda a few years ago bit into it and found a chicken bone (part of the wishbone) in my mouth. I returned the it and pointed out that I could have choked. They supposedly returned it to the manufacturers - it was their own brand and I was sent a £5 voucher with very little apology. I sent the voucher back.0

When pregnant with 2nd child, bought fresh organic soup at Tesco's and violently sick - turned out soup was a week after its best before date. Told Tesco's - got nothing more than refund on soup. No compensation for sickness, let alone potential effect on my pregnancy. Disgusting.0

Asda seem bad for this, I've moved recently and my local supermarket is now one. Never had to check best beore dates when picing stuff off the shelves previously but having repeatedly got home to discover things either expired or due the day of purchase I have to take the time to check every chilled item I buy.0

the amount of times i have been in tesco and asda and spotted yoghurts that are out of date sometimes by a day or 2, and these are usually the kids yoghurts, i always check the dates on the dairy and point out to members of staff that they SHOULD not be on the shelf.
i does make me cross when i see this as many people forget to look at the dates, especially when there in a hurry or harrassed by kids etc.

My M&S is very bad. I went yesterday. Everything I wanted was either best before the end of that day or today. I find that so annoying as I would like to have bought stuff for a few days next week.0

I complained about my chilled shopping from Tesco home delivery having a use by date for the next day. This happened 2 weeks in a row I felt they were using home deliveries to get rid of short coded stuff. I had a refund for the items and since then it hasn't been too bad but always something to check if you have shopping delivered.0

I purchased 3 packs of dry baby food from sainsburys last October. when i got home i noticed 2 of them were past there sell by date over 4 months. I emailed them, they asked me which store, and the recipet details and bar code. Which i did, they said it was nt their fault it was the manifatuers fault. But sent me a £20 sanisbury gift voucher. You would think that they trained their staff to check products and routate stock.
I had to tell member of staff in both Tesco and Asda of havin still products passed selll by date on shelves.A smile and manners doesnt cost any thing0
