Baxters have a policy of aquire/close/relocate. They always have a plant ready set up in eastern Europe so that if they buy another company, they can quickly move production abroad. They only keep open UK plants near to airports with links to Poland so that they can ship over Polish workers when they need to temporarily top-up the workforce as and when required.
Should we stop buying their wares to?Never Knowingly Understood.

I commend the principle based on the betrayal of British jobs, but if you are going to stop buying Twinings tea, then that ideology must apply to every imported product available on the High Street.
Unfortunately, we have a hunger and desire for cheap goods - moreso in todays economic climate, and the reality is whether you like it or not, is that many of these products are manufactured in Eastern Europe and in particular, China where production costs are cheaper.
People also claim to despise the Asian sweat shops and child labour, but will gladly pile into the likes of Primark and other high street chains who allegedly obtain their products from such sources.
Protest/ethical purchasing will unfortunately not stem the flow of jobs going out of the UK or indeed the influx of cheap imports coming in as there just seems to be a limited alternative as the ubiquitous 'Made in China' label is dominant and will be for the foreseeable future I fear.0 -
Businesses will always do what is best for their brand and profits. Why would we assume they would stay in the Uk if it wasn't worth their while to do so. If you want to get angry at someone, look at the government and the taxation system. if things were better in the UK for business then they would stay. twinnings are only doing what is best for the future growth of their product - can't blame them for that.0
