how do you no how much oil u get every time u get oil...It says it on the docket it cant be tampered with

I'm sure there's a way around it if the company is question is dubious. What would happen if they had an oil tank sitting in the depot and they pumped 300lts into it and not into an actual customers tank?

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you as I appreciate you work in the industry but not everyone knows how much is in their tank. Our tank holds over 1100 litres and I'm not sure that at any one time we could be sure to within 100 litres of what we have so depending on when the tank was last filled we could be way out on our oil level estimate.

All I'm saying is that without knowing if the company who put the oil is made a genuine mistake, it could well be a scam. You hear about oil getting nicked at this time of year and this could be another way of doing it without being cloak and dagger.

Edit: After asking the hubby he's recalled a time where he thought that there was 900 litres going in the tank. The docket however said we got 1100 litres so he was 200 litres out on his estimate and we were apparently very close to coming home to a cold house!!

I would not give them a penny, what would they do take you to court and get it thrown out? That is unless it is a trusted oil company who deliver to you all the time. In that case I would look for the discount.
  • I got a call from the oil company this evening asking if I'd decided whether I was going to pay for the oil or did I want it pumped out ? The price they quoted this evening to me was £145. What do I do?
  • Tell them they had not your permission to come on to your property in the first place and that you cannot be sure how much oil was in the tank in the first place to determine if this is true or not. Ask them to get a court order to remove the oil---it will cost them more than the actual cost of the oil and they will eventually back off--no one apart from the police (and only if they have just cause) can enter your property without your permission---good luck.:j
  • Tell them you are seeking legal advice. Contact CAB on Monday see what their advice is.

If you listen to any of the advice above, I would advise you to get your gate padlocked quick smart just in case they take the law into their own hands. Also, get a length of wood (bamboo rod or similar) and use it as a dip stick to measure your oil level just in case you need to know.

Personally I'd agree with the above posts and wouldn't give them a penny although I'm such a wuss I'd probably end up paying them and not being brave enough to stand my ground :o At the end of the day, you didn't steal the oil from them, they made a mistake. If it was a full tank put in and you knew for sure that you had nowhere near that amount of oil then I'd just look for a bigger discount but for such a small amount you can't be sure if they're the victim of an incompetent driver or if you're the attempted victim of a scam.

The tankers have several compartments so it could even go back into a different one than it came out of!

As I said before how can you be sure what grade/quality has been left without their permission?

I think this is wise. In the event that money is wrongly paid into your bank account it is not yours to keep and you need to be sure that this is not the case in your situation. Good luck. :)
