should i ask for discount on my service

as my husband (who normaly does all the work on our cars) is very busy lately, i took one of our cars to a garage for a service.

when i went to collect it this aftermoon, the garage admited they had lost the key to my car, as i don't have a spare they said they would replace all the locks with a new lock kit for free.

i have to pick the car up tomorrow, would i be cheeky asking for a 50% discount on the price of the service?

You can ask, but I think they've already done the decent thing.

If you can show that you are in some way out of pocket for their actions, then they should reimburse that.

No, you will only be embarrassed when they say we have fulfilled our oligations. which they have and good for them.

I would maybe ask for is there is any chance of any discount but 50%, come on................... thats being really greedy imho

You have probably come out on top anyway as if you only had one key you will now have at least two. The price of a new key depending on your car can be very expensive.

Not sure why locks are required. They should be able to order a master key from a main dealer then it is just a matter of reprogramming the key to match the car and the ECU to match the key.

For the same reason if I lost my house keys, but Oh had his, I would still want the locks changed

    Of course you should ask.
It's a money saving website, and they can say yes or no.

You had a wasted journey to collect the car, had to do without your car overnight and now have to go again to collect it due to their almighty blunder........yes and don't just ask and take no for an answer, insist on it.

How can people think doing the decent thing compensates you for the inconvenience??

Replacing the locks doesn't give you anything extra. It had locks when you took it in!

I've bolded part of my previous reply, if it helps you.

There are only about 50 keys in the world for them and a nail file would probably work by now.:)

My ex locked the keys to her 1983 Capri (company car) inside it. We went to a local Ford dealer and he gave us a large key ring with about 50 keys on it and said 'One of these will fit it; bring them back when you've figured out which one.':rotfl:Those were the days.
