My work is SO not OS

I agree that this ruling is draconian, and so out of touch with how real people have to live their lives these days. Quite apart from the lunch issue, some workers can only do their personal shopping in their lunch hour, and if they don't have access to a fridge to keep it from going off during the afternoon, that will cause them serious hassle.
I bet the ruling originated from a male manager. One who didn't have to worry about where his own evening meal was coming from  .I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

You have my sympathy, but I think most people are getting spoiled these days. Try taking in a cool bag and flask to work. Or club in and buy your own team kettle.
Swanky new building...drool....
For instance, my building recently had an infestation of fleas (one of many, and no action taken until we caught one of the little devils) and facilites' response was to lay out a few humane traps....for FLEAS!! :mad:Good, clean fun....MFW #11 2015 £7657 / £88800 -

Again: we are not ALLOWED to have kettles. THey are outlawed. Contraband. Executed at dawn. Weapons of mass tea-boiling. THey are ex-kettles.0 -
If your employer has made a firm decision then I think you'll just have to do whatever you can to manage with what you've got, Sarah. I work somewhere with much poorer facilities than in my last job, but I just accept it as part of the deal and manage the best I can.0

I managed to survive storing my sarnies in an uninsulated lunchbox throughout my schooldays, as did many people, without dire consequences although we did have a kettle when I was in sixth form. It is obviusly annoying for you to have your facilities taken away but I don't see that it has health and safety consequences. Maybe you could ask if you can bring in a kettle if you have it safety tested but they still might not like your using the companies electricity.0

Oh I recall the days when a company I worked for moved buildings to swanky new buildings (let's not mention the weeks of working in unsafe environments because the building wasn't actually finished...) and yep... "NO kettle, Microwave or fridge!" reason? The caterers on site had struck a deal and part of it was that there would be no such facilities... there were "cafe" points and free water... Now the section I worked in was the only one out of thousands of employees where we needed to be in on saturdays and sundays so we raised merry hell. Security didn't want us to order in takeaway because of security issues, our managers didn't want to pay for it, but we were not allowed to leave the building during our shift...
5 months of eating takeaway and billing the company later they finally gave in... (might have been because we all ordered the largest pizzas and so on we could find and had the leftovers for dinner in the evenings hehehe with ice cream and a HUGE drink too... )
I would keep fighting this one to be honest... eventually they will probably back downDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
