Student TV licence issues!

my son received a similar letter in halls last year, then spent his last £3.45 mobile credit trying to get through to tell them he didn't have a tv.........without success.l went to see my neighbour-who actually works for the tv licencing body that tracks down licence dodgers and he told me to tell my son to ignore it. Apparently they send them out to all students[l suppose to frighten them into paying if they are watching tv].he said they may send someone to check at a later date, but no need to worry if you're not watching tv. As far as my son was concerned no one came to him or any of his friends.0

I had loads of these letters, so be prepared to get many more with similar sorts of threats. It's not even worth calling them to let them know you don't have a TV like I did. The response you will get is they need to send someone round to confirm that. Which is exactly what they will do if you don't pay anyway! And because you are in halls there are all sorts of issues they come into when they need to gain access to check. No idea if this is true but I was told that in order to gain access they need permission from the halls owner (uni) and the permissions of you and everybody in your flat. (because parts of it are communal). If anyone of those people refuses then they are not permitted to come in and check.0

Who the hell do they think they are? If you stole something from me, I wouldn't try to convince you I had the right to search your premises for it would I?

Yes, that's true. Hence why they never bother with halls, just send out their [STRIKE]flat pack paper planes[/STRIKE] threatening letters.0 -
Capita Business Services Ltd administer the TV Licence on behalf of the BBC. The names and addresses of Directors are in the public domain, if you feel that you are being threatened by them write to one of the Directors, maybe they will sit up and take note, once their business methods impact negatively on themselves personally[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j

Just ignore them. I am a third year student nad have been getting these letters since first year despite telling them repeatedly I dont have a tv to watch live tv, only for my DVDs and last year my games console. They don't listen. Last year Iwas threatened with a visit when never happened. THis year we are being threatened as well as I just keep chuicking the letters. i filled out their form and they still threaten. if they turn up at my door they will not gain entrnce to the building and i have heard so many horror stories about them trying to fine you for just owning a tv when clearly, the room which the tv is in does not have a tv aerial socket, and i dont own an aerial.0
