School boy error - no mot

and what damage to yours?0

You need to inform your insurer asap. (Elephant don't mention anything regarding having an MOT in their policy docs)
If you want them to do the repairs, then leave it all to them - you will have to pay your excess (usually when you collect the car from the repairer).
You do have the problem about getting the car to the bodyshop with no MOT to solve, unless they will come and carry it in on a trailer.
Or if it's a write off, then it's value will be less than it would have been had it got an MOT.0 -
bonet slightly buckled, slamplate? radiator slightly pushed back and lights no longer secure.. very cosmetic according to my brother0

Quentin and Vaio ... I just want to check as I don't think it's been covered yet ... will it invalidate the insurance?
(Sorry, couldn't resist!)

Always best to keep asking if you don't understand anything.0

yep, very cosmetic but pretty much guaranteed to write an x reg polo off if you claim.
if they do write it off they will also end your insurance policy with no refund of premium (and if you are paying monthly you still have to pay all the outstanding instalments).
So claim and they'll give you the value of the car (£500, maybe £1k) less your excess and end your policy with no refund.
Obviously it depends on how long your policy has to run and how much it cost but I'd be surprised if it was worth you claiming. Better to sweet talk your brother into fixing it for you using scrapyard/ebay parts

In the light of the damage, you may not want to claim, but you still need to inform your insurer - the third party you hit will definitely be in touch (either directly or via their insurer/solicitor again either direct with you or via your insurer), so inform your insurer about the crash, and if you don't want to have your car written off then tell them it's for information only and you are not making any claim at this stage.
Then if you have any correspondence from the third party you just pass it on unanswered to your insurer to deal with.0 -
thanks guys - the only thing hurt was my pride.. :-( and my beloved car a little !!
i think i will get it repaired without claiming (having spent £400 on her 10 days ago)
So i wont be visiting at her majesty's pleasure then???0 -
I have never understood this particular conundrum. By definition, a car without an MOT can not be driven on the road and shouldn't BE on the road. It is illegal for it to be. So why would insurers be quite happy to insure an illegal vehicle, which (among other reasons) may not have an MOT because it failed the MOT and is unsafe. I'd love to hear a recording of the conversation that starts like this, "Hi! I'm insured with you and my policy expires six months from now. My MOT is due next week. I don't think I'll bother getting it done. Any objections?"42 years of experience in the insurance industry.
And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!0
