Forget doing a tourist bus, they are pure rip off. Jump on a bus 19 and you'll do pretty much do a lot of the tourist bits.

If you fancy an adventure with your son (& want to be a bit MSE;)) jump on a bus 8 after a night out at Oxford St or even Liverpool St and get off at Brick Lane to grab some fresh bagels for a midnight snack or even for brekfast the next morning. London buses at night AND good :p

Please, please visit the Tate Britain on Milbank, just a 15-20 min walk away and very worth while! They done some really good tongue in cheeck stuff for your 'own' private collection - so the 'I like yellow', 'I like animals', 'I've got a big meeting', 'First Date', 'Just Broken up', 'it's raining' collections for you to hunt out. whoever did them is a sarky mare I need to congratulate:D

You can then also hop on the 'Tate to Tate' boat and jump on the 3 storey slides at the Tate Modern. After thatas you'll just make the cut off, you can pay £2/5 to have a wonder round the Globe and take pics if you don't think he'll enjoy the exhibition. Borough market's also fab on a w/end.

If you are near the eye on the Fri, have lunch at Giraffe - have a look on their website, they are currently running bogof on main meals for weekdays as wel as 2 course meals for £6.95 between 5-7. They are pretty decent and reliable even without the offers.

You can also wonder down to the Cut and have a meal at livebait. They do a lunch time special 12-4? for £7.50 odd with a drink or soft drink. OR if you go with their a la carte options, you can go on the Sante website and print off one of their £15 vouchers to use there or the Chez Gerad on the South bank.

The National does pizza and a drink for £5 or

What i did last year was (note pretty much all have bogof vouchers around on the web, especially with train ticket offers)

Get train to London Bridge, right outside is London Dungeon (well worth 2 or 3 hours, but take a BOGOF voucher and prepare for a half hour queue).

From the bus stop right outside pickup the RV1 bus and get off at London Eye. Behind the bus stop is the Duck rides (an amphibious yellow bus), again use your BOGOF voucher and enjoy a tour of london AND a ride on the river in the same bus! You may want to book your eye flight beforehand for when the duck finishes. There is a macdonalds just round the corner (by the bridge) and then ride the eye.

Then back on the RV1 till it ends at Covent Garden (my 13 year old daughter said she didnt want to go look at flowers, lol its not like that!) and have a laugh at the street performers.

Finally we walked from there through Leicester Square (china town is just a few yards north of there) to the Rainforest Cafe at Picadilly Circus, again 20% or thereabouts vouchers are frequently available.

A cheaper day out... failing that its the museums (tube:south kensington), very limited free car parking on sunday just behind the albert hall....

    derek

  • i dont know if its already been suggested as i havent read the full thread but Sorastros is AWESOME!!!! its in Drury lane in Covent Garden.
Especially if your going to the theatre too, it is quite a posh place but is built in an old theatre and is very surreal.

check out their website, its wiked, but if you want to eat up in one of the `boxes` you have to state this when you book.

If you do go to the Tate Modern and want a go on the slides, go in the morning and book your slot before coming back.

Friends went on the weekend, they couldn't get on the tripple or double storey slides and the queues were long for the smaller kids slide
