Ink carts are expensive because the printers arn't. It's kind of like the mobile phone industry, contracts are expenve to give away new phones every year.

Canon Pixma series are the ones to go for as you can refill them, although the printer driver complains about it being empty the printing just keeps on coming. Older Canon's were evn better as the cart and print head were seperate, the carts cost only a few pounds. The recent Epson's with individual carts are ok but the black is tiny and runs out fast.

HP and lexmark are good printers but ink is even more costly than others.

Be aware that "genuine HP" ink cartridges sold in volume on eBay at, say, a third to half of the normal RRP are probably counterfeit. The counterfeit ink cartridge industry is thriving. Certainly the "genuine" ones I bought turned out to be fake (a good likeness, though). They worked, but probably had a higher chance of not working, and ran out perceptibly quicker.

In a similar vein and by way of general warning ... Another thing on eBay that is virtually always counterfeit is memory cards. It has been estimated that 98% of all memory cards sold on eBay are fake. I have bought 4 of various formats, branded Sony, SanDisk, etc, and they were all fake. Again, most were quite realistic, you wouldn't realise unless you had a real one next to it to compare with, and in one case I was only sure after sending it to Sony for analysis. They all work, but quality control will be lower or non-existent, and they'll die sooner than the genuine article. Which is quite worrying, when people entrust precious photos to these cards.

I agree about the very high prices of originals ink cartridges - I buy my compatibles from Jettec via a reseller they are fantastic I have had a few little problems but I called the customer service help line and they gave me technical advice.

I would recommend them as I pay very little for exceptional quality.

All the HP cartridges that I have ever brought off eBay have been genuine ones and not fake. I agree with you about the memory cards though, I would never bother buying one on eBay.
