A discount supermarket chain has been accused of destroying the magic of Christmas after putting reindeer steaks on its shelves. :xmassmile
Lidl, which has more than 500 shops in Britain, is the first multiple grocery retailer in the UK to introduce reindeer meat in the run-up to the festive season. The frozen steaks, which cost £5.99 for a 350g pack, were launched this week under its premium Deluxe label.
FACT - £5.99! I thought Lidl was a bargain supermarket!

What is the usual price for reindeer meat?
Until I know that I can't be sure it isn't a bargain.:rudolf:0 -

£14 per 300g pack, so £5.99 for 350g is a real bargain.

We had the ostrich steaks for lunch yesterday. Low fat and delicious.
Going to try the reindeer next.

My cats have reindeer meat cat food and they love it! :rotfl: So if it's good enough for them.
I think I'll pop to Lidl and get a couple of these steaks to try, actually. I wonder if the freezing process has any effect on the flavour/texture of the meat? Although we had frozen kangaroo from an online butcher and it was beautiful.
Thanks for the post OP!Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
Why bother with a statement from VIVA! They are a group of vegitarians/vegans so no matter how good or bad the animals were/are treated they would object anyway.
What is the difference in eating cow/sheep/pig/venison etc etc, either you eat meat and eat it all, otherwise it is 2 faced. We should have the animals treated with as much dignity and respect as possible whilst alive, kill them as painlessly and as stresslessly as we can and then respect the meat and the life it was by not wasting any.

The Laps are some of the healthiest , laid back and intelligent people in the world and this is their staple meat.
If its good enough for them then its good enough for me !
As I understand it this meat has one of the lowest cholesterol levels of any .
Good eating !
