ipod touch vs netbook

im after something small and cheap (under £180 if possible) to connect to the internet anywhere in the house to check the basics, email, ebay, share price etc

What would be better to get, an ipod touch or cheap small netbook
Any suggestions please?

    Thanks again
  • I surf rather a lot on my ipod touch after turning my laptop off for the evening :D
You just need to learn all the little shortcuts and quirks of the screen. double tap to zoom in for example, touch the top of the frame to zoom back to the top, how to copy, paste, etc.

It's a handy little tool, I have bought tesco shopping using it (on safari) bought and paid for ebay items, even booked hotel rooms.
Anyway, on top of all that, it's excellent for checking emails, and shock, horror - listening to music! :D

    I recommend it.

eta: I have also used it to check nationwide and hsbc websites for account status etc.

Using safari it is just like any browsers but the text is very small, you can enlarge the text but when its large enough to read it’s only a small part of the page. The keyboard is also quite small but you do get use to using it.

It is a very nice little gadget and we use it a lot more than we though we would.

yep you can either go to the hotmail website in safari or you can set it up in the mail app using exchange and then eveytime you get an email you will get it instantly (exactly like a text message).

IMO in your situation I would go for the ipod over a netbook

As far as I can see neither lloyds or first direct have an iOS app so it would be worthwhile checking that they allow log ins via safari on the iPod - some banks eg RBS only allow certain browsers that they have deemed suitable and secure to access internet banking

My advice would be a netbook plain and simple.

I think the iPod Touch is great but I wouldn't want to use it as my sole internet access. A netbook is far more comfortable for that.

A cheap netbook is worlds away from an iPod Touch in terms of browsing the net.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I've both a Touch and netbook and I use the netbook in the home all of the time.

You get a proper computer that can access virtually any website going with a reasonably decent sized screen.

The Touch has it's uses but given a choice between the two I'd take the netbook every time.
