Worst case scenario:head gasket.£££££
Take the top off the oil cap,and look for a mayonnaise type gunge.If that is what you see,then the most likely cause is the head gasket.
But have a check around the engine bay,when the engine is running,and see if you can see any obvious leaks.I'm talking about hoses here,as one may have a split in it,and is cheap to replace.

birdy, mayonnaise will be in the oil filler cap and there will be smoke coming from the exhaust. Also check if the expansion bottle is boiling and if temp guage is high, might be faulty thermostat or fan switch, both cheap to replace. If the head gasket's gone, nurse it to the nearest scrap yard!!!0
