I am having a problem with my virgin broadband, which has happened for 8 days now.

I have a signal, the technicians on the phone have done tests with me and say everything is fine on the line, the modem is picking up the signal, but no webpages are loading up. (I am using a comp from a diff house now)

I reformatted the hardrive (to get rid of any software/virusus if any), and make it a fresh windows system (which I have done many times before, and the broadband works fine)

so i have tried on an old hardrive, a NEW formatted hardrive, and it still doesnt work.

The modem is fine too, as I have tested it on a friends computer.

Have you have these issues for 5-10 days? No page uploading?

They say there is no fault, no need to send an engineer out as their tests have been fine/positive.

I was thinking of switching to o2? or should I wait some more days to see if the signal/webpages come?

EXTRA DETAILS
I am using a BT line, with a virgin DSL broadband service
Connected using a USB modem, I dont have cable or interactive stuff. I just use the net for browsing, no games or anything, just Simple browsing.

anyway,
Have you have these issues for 5-10 days? No page uploading - If so HOW DID IT GET SORTED? and When did it get fixed?

- What would you advise?

Are you using CABLE broadband or DSL broadband. If you are on Cable broadband, unless you have an active BT line, you cant have anything else apart from VM as DSL broadband will not work on a cable line.

You say your broadband is picking up the signal.
How are you connected to it?
Wireless or Ethernet/USB? (If it is wireless but you can connect to the internet with Ethernet & a Service Tech comes out, you'll be charged £50.)
If you are on a Cable broadband,do you have Cable TV?
    Does that work OK?
Does the interactive on it work OK?

I'm asking these questions as these are what I would ask as a VM Service Engineer, which I was until redundency.

Does not look like a VM problem .
You have usb modem known problems with them .

Can you use the other internet connections or is it only web pages not loading .

That is does email work or windows updates or AV updates .
What lights are flashing on the modem .

Both lights flash on the modem, solid green. Does this mean that it can still be broken?

    UPDATE:
My internet works fine in the Daytime, but in the evening it does not.

Could it be an Allowance issue? / or a download issue?

Not for simple web browsing .

Is their anything in the house that switches on in that time frame as it could be electrical interference .
You should do a few speed tests at varying times of the day .
Note 4pm weekdays and sat sun UK broadband tends to be most congested .

    Speed tester here

NEW UPDATE- I find that it works fine in the daytime, but not in the evenings. I havnt been doing much downloading but have some youtube clips/songs in the past months.

    a) Could my download limit have exceeded?
-but when i phoned the Virgin engineer, they didnt mention that my account download limit had been exceeded ? so wouldnt they have done so?

    b) Has anybody else had this issue of Virgin broadband working in the daytime but NOT in the evening?

    c) Do virgin (or other broadband providers) cut off the internet supply when download limits have exceeded? ?

    any other advise?

firstly go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and check what its running at normally. What internet speed are you meant to be on? Also do you know if you on fibre optic broadband or is it through your phoneline?
