Yep, do it yourself.
I can do them in about 10 mins so if you're careful, it shouldn't take you long.
If it's an Iphone 3G or 3GS take my advice and beware Connector 3....Google it make sure you note it before you dismantle the unit."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
What iphone is it. I noticed last night a nice option for the iphoen 4 on a site where you can get the entire front or back in white. Looks easy to replace too compared to the 3gs.0

should mention too, that they were availible on ebay but i think that they were genreally from overseas which I'm never too keen on0

Having a go yourself may well save money but you have to consider that if you make a muck-up of it and end up taking it to an Apple store for repair there is every chance that the Apple people will be able to tell and your warranty will be voided for the remainder of the 12 month period. If you are confident in what you are doing then I would say go for it. If you are less than confident, however, I think I'd be tempted to just bite the bullet and pay Apple the full cost of an authorised repair. The one thing I certainly wouldn't be doing, though, is sending a very expensive phone to someone I had found on Google and didn't know from Adam.
Whichever way you decide to go, once it is repaired you should look at getting it covered on your house insurance with a personal possessions add-on to your contents insurance. If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

When I damaged the screen on my iphone, I took it to the apple shop who swapped it over for another phone (refurb) for £140. Thats at least the worst case scenario it terms of price for you.0

Is it the screen, i.e. LCD or the front glass. The front glass/digitizer is £10 ish, the LCD and Glass about £50.
I did one the other day and it was smashed into pieces so it was slightly tricky removing the small bits, but worked fine.0
