Barclay Card

Hello

i applied for a barclay card online yesterday. I was accepted. Cant remember which one. Think the rate is about 16%?.

It was flabbergasted when i was accepted.

i have £6500 to pay back on a RBS Loan at £501 per month

i have a £2600 overdraft with RBS, it is used up to the limit

i have an rbs credit card with £1390 on it.

i have a halifax credit card with £4500 on it.

Anyway, im going to do a balance transfer. Does anyone know what sort of credit limit they are likely to give me.

  • Probably between £100 and £25,000!

Impossible to be more precise on the info you have given...

I would look at your isa rates, it would be worth you paying your cards with the 10k
  • There have been quite a few reports here recently, where Barclaycard (or their computer) accepted a new application,
only to cancel a few days later, as not meeting their 'lending criteria'.

So, don’t count your chicken (or your cards) before they’re hatched.

Don't get too excited just yet. At the moment Barclaycard seem to be approving people, sending out cards, then closing the account without reason, seen quite a few posts like this lately. I think they have been taking lessons from natwest/rbs!

  • My guess (and it really is a guess) is £2500 to £5000. Also some posters report being accepted only to have Barclays cancel the account soon afterwards. Your level of indebtedness is quite high for your income, but not disastrous.

They won't see your ISA accounts. Via the credit reference agency they will see the state of your other credit accounts and how many searches have been recorded. They put this together with what you put on the application. If you bank with them, they may use this data too.

Agree with comment about looking at using ISA cash to pay down some of the debt.

Just to give you an update.

I have received an email from Barclay Card today saying that i have been accepted, that the card will be with me in 10 days and that i have a credit limit of £8000.:D

i take it that i still have not cleared the final hurdle and that when i phone to activate the card a human will tell me i have been declined?

Can you not activate your card through their site without the need to talk to a human?.

I did this with my RBS card.
  • When you call to activate, you don't speak to Barclaycard. You speak to some temp in a 3rd party company who will try to sell you card protection. You'll be fine.
