Barclaycard: What a Joke

in Credit cards
I recently applied for Barclaycard credit card to make a purchase since it was interest free for 13 months.
My card was approved and sent to me telling me the credit limit.
I rang to activate my card today and with no problem.
I then went on to set up a direct debit but the customer service put me on hold for sometime and came back telling me that my account is closed as i do not meet the lending criteria.
I asked them why the card was sent in the first place, and why they went on to activate it?
They said sorry but all above is autometically generated.
What a Joke?

I agree - it is a joke not just because of your one-off experience but because it seems to be happening a lot with Barclaycard recently. You are not the first poster to report this.
You probably can't get the decision reversed, but you could go through the formal complaints procedure and ultimately the ombudsman if you felt strongly enough. As I say - it's unlikely anything would be changed, but it does seem like some kind of failure in their systems that this can happen. It isn't "treating customers fairly" which they are supposed to do. It sounds like they are issuing cards before they've completed credit/due diligence checks. Just saying something is "automatically generated" (with the implication that there is nothing that can be done) isn't really good enough either. You are supposed to be able to get automated credit decisions manually checked if you wish as part of an appeal, so it's wrong for them to suggest nothing can be done.0 -
I absolutely agree with ChattyChappy's response, they need to sort it out and take accountability for their poor processes!!!April 2020 - £102,222 Loans/CC’s.
