In my opinion Android will become the champion mobile OS over the coming years.

If your after an iPhone killer go for one of the top Android handsets ... HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S are both excellent and won't disappoint.
  • Blackberry Torch. Takes a memory card up to 32gb and also has a keypad. Think Palm Pre style. I don't have music on my phone and I do a lot of emailing so suits me fine.

Not sure why you said this, as it doesn't make any sense.

Why do you think you'll be doing on your phone that you need permission for?

    Calls?
    Texts?
    Browsing
    Downloading apps?
    Listening to music?
    Downloading podcasts?
    Watching video?
    Using Facebook?

I've done all those things, and never once asked someone for permission.

I think the OP is referring to the restrictiveness of the Apple approach. Apps need to be pre-approved and the user can't easily get full root access to their phone.

While this flexibility isn't needed, or wanted, for the majority of people it still provides a restriction which a few of us don't want.

Just get the iPhone, make sure it's the 4. I have one and it's amazing..

not worth anywhere near 500 (imo) when you can pick up an android for < 100

what if you want to download an attachment from an email? Or send a file over bluetooth to a friend? How about if you want to download an app from somewhere other than the itunes app store? How about using video calls over the 3G network? How about view websites as they are, and not how apple want you to see them (i.e. with flash)? What happens if you fill up all your phone space, and want to switch SD cards?

My HTC Desire HD is awesome, however it does lack a decent battery life.

The only reason i would want an iPhone for is the games - but Android is making strides into that market. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) has a lot of game-related changes that should improve the marketplace.

I can see where this thread is going. The OP is looking for iPhone alternatives and it's moving towards an Apple vs Android fanboi war!

    Quality.

How do you know someone has an iPhone? They ask to borrow your phone because they can't make any calls.

iv got an iphone 4, have had for about 4 months now and had no loss of signal, no dropped calls no problems.

most of the things you asked to be able to do ringo can be done with a simple jailbreak tool, if you so wish to have "unnapproved apps" or run facetime over 3g, use a different web browser (infact you can get different browsers from app store)

its not for everyone, in that yeah, there are still restrictions to interactivity with other make devices and no expandable memory but really, is 32 gb not enough??? for me its ideal as i have a phone, and i dont need to carry an extra mp3 player about, annoys me when im on a bus and someone cant hear their phone ringing because they have their mp3 on lol!

The voice control has to be the most awesome feature of the iphone 4, push and hold a button on your earphones, and tell it what to play or to skip the track or as who is playing, what the time is, stop playing and call someone etc, keeps your hands warm during this cold winter!!!
