With the way fees are going to rocket upwards, I would say that the money would be far better saved for food and the odd pint in the Union bar! My DD has recently graduated from Loughborough, another campus Uni. She doesnt drive, walks or bikes everywhere, and very few of her friends had cars the whole time she was there. However, she's a lot fitter than those with cars!!0

Nottingham University impose a three mile limit on students' car parking. If you live within three miles of the campus you are not allowed to park.
This is strictly enforced.
Permits are issued to everyone who is eligible to park: staff, students' outside the three mile limit. Everyone else has to pay in visitors' car parks.
This will probably all change next August when Nottingham impose the work place parking levy.
There is simply not enough car parking space for everyone who wants or needs to park their car.0 -

Two years ago the insurance for his 17 year old brother in a £900 Ford Fiesta 1400cc was £2400 and he has been driving happily since then. He is now 19 and has now got a new Renault.
The Fiesta was being kept for Jake but now
the best insurance quote is £5000 - the Co-op quoted £12,000. I'm aware that young drivers have the most accidents and many are not insured etc etc but with these prices how does a young person ever get to drive unless they are the son of a footballer:mad:
They don't.
I didn't.
£2,400 for insurance let alone £5,000 is crazy, just get a limousine everywhere.
If you really want insurance, sell the Ford and get a Citroen 2CV6 (600cc). Should cost half of that to insure0 -
I am watching Road Wars it seems most 15 to 17 year olds have no problems in driving ;o)))))0

Tell them to buy a bike. A few hundred pounds for bike, lights, panniers, basket, etc., students don't need cars....0 -

i bought my daughter a 1.0 corsa as a learner car for her 17th and with her as main driver and me named it cost only £700, when she passed her test the cost doubled to £1,300 which i thought was reasonable. she drives a newer 1.2 corsa now and her renewal is due in jan but she will have 2yrs ncb to help her
i might add that at the same time as getting ins for my daughter i was looking for my nephew and his was twice the price for same vehicleBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Will taking the pass plus bring the quote down a little, or has he already taken this? It says you can save as much as 35%. Insurance in our area has rocketed due to a big scam with fake accidents0

Was your nephew's postcode the same as this influence's the cost of insurance - also what was his occupation and did you put a parent or other older driver in to get the quote?
Jake's Gran - if your grandson goes to Manchester and wants to take his car, the cost for insurance is probably going to be even higher.0
