My wife owned a flat a few years ago, and had gas with E-on, after a year she rang to say that she wanted to settle the acount etc, she got a phone
call back to say that she didn't have an account, so basically they were providing her with free gas for a year.

No, they didn't supply her with free gas. They supplied her with gas others had to pay for.

I have also just received a letter from a debt collector saying I owe E.On from my previous property I moved from exactly 2 years ago. Having looked back at my bank statements it looks like I was paying by direct debit but it looks like it stopped 6 months before I moved out.

My letter from debt collection agency details admin fees - does this mean I'm paying admin fees for them not sending me bills or reminders that nothing was being paid?

Do the debt collectors wait until Christmas so they know you'll be unlikely to make a cash payment and they can get more money?

    Hi Jimmie-bon,

The admin fee's are added on by the debt collection company, these are not charges for bills.

When you moved out of the property, you should have received a final bill using the final meter reading, did you contact E.ON to advise you were moving out with your readings and forwarding address?.

The only way to establish why the Direct Debit stopped would be to contact E.ON and ask them.

The debt will have been passed to a debt collection agency after E.ON have not been able to locate you, again, we won't know what you have been sent and when unless you request this from E.ON.

If you need any help, just let me know.

    Helena :)
