I keep hoover/ironing board/mop in the understairs cupboard. do new builds not have understair cupboards?? assuming of course they do actually have stairs. In our flat we use what was the coal cupboard to store all that stuff.
They do, but you often find the underneath of the stairs continues into the kitchen, as the lounge is so small, the stairs are longer.
So you end up with a tiny pokey cupboard at the lower end of the stairs, with not much height.0 -

I have a Victorian 2 up 2 down "cottage". Very little storage so stuff tends to go on ebay.0 -

Notice they don't complain of lack of room for a kettle though.
Hmmm.... Jesus, they must all own some f*cking massive toasters. Some 74 Slice Breville Big B*stard or something.
Nah, there's just no room left after the "automatically grinds and brews 36 types" coffee machines that can't even make a bog-standard coffee without a fancy name :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

B*gger. I'm not going to get rich any time soon am I? I was hoping for something with a smaller footprint mind, though if you put the kettle on the bottom then the toast would get soggy and if you put the toaster on its side on the bottom it wouldn't toast evenly. Isn't it ironic that in today's consumerist society when everyone has more "stuff" the houses to store it all in have become smaller?
Or is it all part of the same scam?"The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Houses for the working class have always been small - 2 up / 2 down, 2 down / 1 up, back to backs, were built in their millions and mostly torn down during the slum clearances after WW2......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

That's true,just because a house is'nt modern won't always mean they'll be bigger.
Lots of little victorian cottages and tiny terraces were built, some not even having a proper stair case just stairs going from the living area to sometimes just a single room upstairs.
In my opinion you can't beat a middle of the road Victorian or Edwardian property.Fantastic high ceilings and large rooms, huge halls and sit down kitchens.
Even they come with a downside though and that is no matter how well you insulate them and no matter how efficient the heating system is they never get as warm as a new house will be and cost an absolute fortune to heat.
There's benefits in living in a small house and one of them is lower fuel bills.0
