Self storage soars as UK houses are too small

  • If house prices crash as much as some people are saying, wouldn't it be a good idea if we live in these caged warehouses, and store all our stuff in our houses?

Just to let you know small houses are not a new thing when I was young I lived in a 2 bed Victorian house, literally two up two down front door straight into living room back door straight into kitchen.

"35 per cent said their kitchens were too small even to accommodate a toaster."

Jesus, they must all own some f*cking massive toasters. Some 74 Slice Breville Big B*stard or something.

Either that or 35% of people have kitchens that are less than two foot square.

Yeah its also a given right to own a large 4 bed detached as a first property.

I don't have anywhere to store an ironing board, mop and bucket, and vacumn (upright at least) either. Just has to stay out.

But these people must have a lot of !!!!!!. Don't buy it if you don't have room for it, I mean, is it that hard?

No space for a toaster? !!!!!!.

Notice they don't complain of lack of room for a kettle though.

That made me :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: too. I'd suggest their kitchens are big enough but their brains are rather on the small side :D

you do seem to collect the biggest pile of crap over the years but everything we have looked at had room for a toaster. I keep hoover/ironing board/mop in the understairs cupboard. do new builds not have understair cupboards?? assuming of course they do actually have stairs. In our flat we use what was the coal cupboard to store all that stuff.

I read once that the likes of Barrat,Persimmon and Wimpey buy special midget sized furniture to put into their showhouses and when anyone unfortunate enough to buy one comes to furnishing it with normal sized furniture they find it doesn't fit.

We bought a new build in the early 1980s - within a reasonable distance of where we were living there was Barrat, Wimpey and a local builder.

We didn't look at the Barrat houses but we did look at the Wimpey houses - I loved the 3 bed semi - I would have moved in straight away - but OH had his more practical head on and pointed out that our 3 piece suite wouldn't fit in the lounge - and when I did look at the furniture they had very narrow armed chairs and a 2 seater sofa - and ours wouldn't have fit - it also cost extra for central heating - I hadn't noticed the lack of radiators either. So it was a none starter.

We bought a house from the local builder who didn't have a show house - but the houses had 2 walk in cupboards downstairs - a dining room and kitchen you could eat in. The middle bedroom also had a walk in cupboard and was big enough to take 3 single beds all in a row along a wall. And cost £5k less.

My daughters friend bought a new 2 bed with an en suite - the problem is she can't shut the bathroom door because of the bed. Handy.

There are some Victoriand terraces near us that are small too - they were workers houses, either for Great Western or Huntley and Palmers - 2 up 2 down. Some open directly into the living room and some open onto a small hall way.
