Just want to record & maybe play CDs

I bought a Panasonic flat screen TV. It is not very big and I cannot even play CDs on it. All this because I did not want a black TV in my bedroom. So, it is a very nice set but I would just like to record a film or drama prog now and then because this is what I watch most of the time and they clash quite often. Therefore,

what would you buy for this purpose? i.e. to record or play pre-recorded films etc?. There was an ad on TV about a Freeview Plus service and I believe it has a hard drive in the boxes which can be bought for around £75. I am not interested in extra Freeview programmes but the box might suit my purpose? Any ideas please?

You can't play pre-recorded DVD's on a Freeview PVR (or any other sort of PVR), as there is no DVD drive in them. So you would need a DVD recorder.
if you just want to record programmes from Freeview for later playback, then any Freeview PVR will do it, though I would always recommend the Humax PVR 9300T.
You will find the interface on a PVR much better than that on a DVD recorder.
