    i-Dealing are pretty good.

ISA or standard account (AIM) annual charge of £20/yr. No inactivity fees. Cash held on account as required. All US/EU/UK trades at £9.90/trade + stamp duty. Buy/Stop and buy limit/sell limit orders are £2 extra.

NYSE online trading 2:45 - 4:30 only though, unless contigent order in place. In EU some variation on country trading times (e.g. Holland, Sweden, Switzerland). Aswell as shares, good range of etfs including multiple leveraged and inverse, bonds, gilts, linkers, pref shares etc.

i-Dealing cheaper than TD on international dealing costs, also telephone orders cost the same as online trades whereas at TD, much more expensive for this. One thing to bear in mind if trading NYSE where dividends are an issue, TD supports W-8BEN whereas i-Dealing is not geared up for this at present to reduce withholding tax. Also TD do Australia/Hong Kong/Singapore whereas i-Dealing do not. But if you want this level of world coverage and trading various markets in real time you have to pay more for this anyway and I guess it would be worth looking at interactive brokers also.

I rarely look at US/Can individual shares, but just checked and NYSE/TSX seems fine for the usual suspects. If you want, you can throw across a wish list and I can check if they are available.

    Here is a list :

    Arian Silver AGQ / ASLRF
Rye Patch Gold RPM / RPMGF
    Minera Andes MAI / MNEAF
    VG Gold VG / VGGCF
    Nuinsco Resources NWI / NWIFF
    Axmin Inc AXM / AXMIF
Minera IRL Ltd IRL / MRLLF
GMV Minerals Inc GMV / GMVMF

Are any of these on there.

    Thanks

Initial wish list of eight is half Toronto tsx, half tsx Toronto venture. But none of yours currently listed at i-dealing. Searched on the tsx tickers rather than otc tickers. As previous post, NYSE trading fine this afternoon but none of the CAN tsx were, which is strange as some tsx are listed, a few cut and paste examples below:

EQUITY ADB-TSX.V N/A LSE ADMIRAL BAY RESOURCES INC COMMON STOCK OF NPV EQUITY ASM.TSX.V N/A LSE AVINO SILVER & GOLD MINES LTD COMMON STOCK OF NPV EQUITY ATN.TSX N/A LSE ATNA RESOURCES LTD COM STK NPV EQUITY AVL.TSX N/A LSE AVALON RARE METALS INC COM STK NPV EQUITY AXM.TSX N/A LSE AXMIN INC COMMON STOCK NPV EQUITY BDY.TSX N/A LSE BRAZILIAN DIAMONDS LIMITED COM STK NPV EQUITY BTP.TSX N/A LSE BEARTOOTH PLATINUM CORPORATION COM STK NPV EQUITY BVG.TSX N/A LSE BRAVO VENTURES GROUP INC COMMON STOCK NPV EQUITY CMH.TSX N/A LSE CARMANAH TECHNOLOGIES CORP COMMON STOCK NPV EQUITY CS.TSX N/A LSE CAPSTONE MINING CORP COMMON STOCK NPV

As above, on i-dealing the tsx come out as XXX-TSX and tsx venture as XXX-TSX.V. but the online i-dealing tsx(v) lists are not comprehensive though (50-100 at a guess), given the CAN tsx mining sector has around 1150 tsx stocks and approx 300 tsx venture stocks as in link below (see also “mining companies listed under the related documents section for x2 excel worksheets for full lists):

    http://www.tmxmoney.com/en/sector_profiles/mining.html

Not sure how many providers are going to list them all, but that does not mean you cannot get them. If you want to enquire at i-dealing best e-mail them (include phone number as they often prefer ringing back rather than tit-for-tat e-mails) with a query on two representative examples of tsx and tsx venture e.g. AGQ.TSX.V (ISIN:VGG0472G1063) and IRL.TSX (ISIN: CA6029101012). Note: ISINs obtained from Morningstar as i-dealing usually want the ISIN aswell as ticker and exchange. If they allow the trades on these stocks and exchange, they are pretty good at adding other stocks to their list on request for trading, they did this for me recently on an EU etf query.

Anyway, if it can be done, might be a cost effective way to trade your mining shares. If so, contact them and see if they can oblige. Would be interested to hear the outcome if you go for this.

Also if any OPs have access to TD Waterhouse account and Toronto Stock Exchange/Canadian Venture Exchange, would be useful to know the range of mining tsx stocks that are accessible though TD.

Of course it is possible to trade in the stocks you want, but to expect this level of service to be provided on the cheap is naive.

  • Hi,
Just wondering if you ever found a good broker at a reasonable price. I am looking to buy some shares in two companies listed on the Frankfurt exchange, one is matra oil, M6R, The other is encore oil, OIR, the companies I have tried so far are Equiniti, xo and III, none of whom can trade in the above shares, anyone any advice for a site that will trade these?
    Many thanks,

    Paul.

You might be having difficulties finding a provider because of the names and tickers you are using.

Matra petroleum (NOT Matra oil) M6R on Frankfurt, is LSE listed as "MTA". ISIN GB00B06GS855 same on both exchanges.

Encore oil OIR on Frankfurt, is LSE listed as "EO."... note the dot at end of ticker. ISIN GB00B06KL332 same on both exchanges.

So check for your preferred provider and where you can trade MTA and EO. To trade these AIM shares you will need a non-ISA account.

    Thanks.

There must be some brokers that have a decent international exposure.

I want to invest in US/Canadian mining companies and most of them are on the NYSE, or TSX.

So far I,m only managed to find TD Waterhouse.

The annoying part is that Waterhouse charge £10 + VAT per qtr for idle accounts that have had no trading.

    What can I do.
I think TD waive the AMC if you keep at leat £5k in your normal dealing account (as opposed to your ISA account).
