Windows Live Messenger Issue

Hi, I am wondering if anyone else is having the same issue as me.

Basically Windows Live Messenger (current version 9) is playing up.

I have it set to 'Appear off-line' to contacts. However if I get a email and I click on the email tab to load my email up in IE it automatically changes the status to 'Available', which is a pain in the backside.

I have tried reinstalling it but the same problem persists. Anyone got any ideas?

Ive got the exact same problem! Is there anyway we can go back to the last version as I hate this new one?

Well at least that confirms it not specific to my system.

I agree on the new Messenger 2011, it is bloated and I removed it after I tried it.

You can install previous version via https://www.filehippo.com after you have un-installed the newer version.

I'm not a fan of bloated adware like Live Messenger - have you tried Pidgin? It's very simple to use, lets you turn accounts on/off as you wish, and you can connect to MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC (and probably other IM accounts).

Ive tried to install 3 previous versions and its not working will only give me the current version, can someone please advise a link to an old version??

Before I updated to 2011, I was having issues like messages not sent even when I was logged in, and having to relogin.

So I think they are doing that to force us

I'm on the older version and when I'm set to offline in messenger then click on the hotmail icon it opens he internet browser and it shows me as online.

the fix (at least for me) is in the internet browser hover over your name in the top right corner and select 'Appear offline' and it remembers it for next time.

i have simuler problem i am still using windows live messenger 2009 and it does same to me when i open emails and not only that i get another chat window open when i am in chat with someone so i have the IM im chatting to and one in on the email page so it comes up twice if i get rid of the one on the email page it closes the original one down and if i close email page dowm it has gone i dont want to up date to 2011 as i have heard some much problems about it

I have this problem as well. I just thought it was because I had signed in from a different place the other day and had messed something up. I have signed out and in several times and before I sign in, make sure that I am set to appear offline, but so far still nothing is working.

Earlier on, I noticed the bit on the right hand side underneath all the email things, there is a messenger tab, when I clicked "Sign out of messenger" on that, so far, just tried it again, I am still signed out. Fingers crossed this will sort my problem out.

I've been having issues with the thing too, the other day it said i was logged in at first 2 places (which confused me!) and then 3! It turned out it was the status on the email window counting as the extra login places.
I clicked to sign out of messenger on email it signed me out of my messenger which I was chatting on too!
I tried sending a complaint on their feedback page but they won't reply I am sure.
eta: and for the first 2 weeks I kept getting a new window force itself open to advertise their new windows live download! really annoying. i complained about that too.
